Title: Verify Displacement?
Post by: JoeRider677 on July 16, 2011, 03:41:53 PM
I'm a newbee. Should a record be qualified for and then backed up how does the inspection got to verify the displcement? I'd prefer not to be trearing my motor apart.

If you can disable the valves and spin the motor, and it's ,not to close to the break, you may be able to pump it. Rarely possable on an OHC engine. Or if you have some device that will pass through the spark plug hole and verify the bore and stroke you will be good. After that it's tear down.

Hi
Car no 959 G/ Pro
Can the engine be sealed so as we can continue competing in different classes and measured at the end of the meeting
We have drilled holes to seal the engine

Yes. Other people have done the same.

If some engine CI is closer than 3 % of the engine limit, then pumping can not be used, so you would need to remove a engine head or even easier on some cars, remove the engine pan, they can measure from there to verify legal. Dave

PS, Dan Warner can answer this question better!

We try to use the pump as much as possible. JD Tone was able to hit the cid on the nose using the temp factor.

Each displacment check unique and I have a good crew working with me. Dave, when we drop a pan you can come measure it. I don't do that anymore.

I learned the pump from guys who certify the NASCAR pumps (or did) only a few are torn down.....I can pump a 302 on a 305 max, or could, when I was doing pumping 10 times a day. Dan will remember the guy who pumped a 435 when he wanted 445. After 3 different holes he took a head off and we measured it 434. Seems like his builder put in the wrong crank and pistons...............JD
