so does anyone know how many cars & bikes showed up also how many runs did everyone get and how was the course.
-
Heard the track was loose from the get go. :-P
-
No numbers but there were plenty of records on Sat. Maybe the 40 mph tailwind helped. Everyone who wanted git 3 runs. Not a giant turnout. 3 or four spins. Nothing exciting.
-
The track had a nice bump on it that everyone seemed to find.
-
Looks very windy today. Hope they get some runs in.
-
How well did the patrols and BLM cops do at keeping interlopers off the course? How about ATV tire tracks -- any to speak of?
-
Haven't got any reports today.
-
Very windy today! A few cars ran this morning, but we have been on hold for about 30 min. No interlopers that I saw, but a few ATV tire tracks.
-
We were third off the line on Saturday after hoping the course would be the best in years however it was sup par...we are happy for the record we set considering it was my first pass back after crashing a month a go. No tailwind in the morning for us.. :|
Hopefully the course will be better next month......
Congrats to the other racers that either set records or ran their personal best.
-
It was a good meet with lots of records. It was good to see you there John.
-
I thought SCTA and everyone did a great job
-
:cheers:John, thanks for your hospitality Fri. eve. REALLY enjoyed the company, Corona, and conversation~! BCNU soon!

I had patrol Sunday morning. Right when we started a couple of land sailers encroached the coned off area on the tower side. I chased them down and politely explained the danger involved and never had a problem with them again. Wayno

so does anyone know how many cars & bikes showed up also how many runs did everyone get and how was the course.
Early sat they announced 93 entries but there were several cars in inspection line before that, don't know if they were counted, Fast freddy said he got sideways at the start and couldn't give full throttle untill end and by then it was to late for a good time slip. His data log showed were he tried more throttle with increased revs and backing off throttle
a few times. Course was not tight as I thought it might be after being flooded all winter and I wonder if that big dairy
is sucking all the ground water up and not allowing the course to dry up slowly? Who knows, but sometimes the course does get better.
I took a video of Freds run but still learning how to keep cars in viewfinder all the way down course [ I lose sight from glare as car goes by] as you will see when Bvillercr gets video posted later this week.
Dave Davidson said he didn't give more than just a bit of throttle in the 911 roadster but set an open record of 246 mph + also the 511 set a 208 + record. Two roadsters, two records one meet
Got a pretty good video of the 511 from starting line with Donnie Cummins driving but screwed up on taking the 911
''ga dang it :x'' I must have hit the record button twice  Left for home about 11:00 AM Sat

How did the weather and racing turn out on Sunday?
Saturday was pretty breezy but mostly tailwind.
Got up Sunday AM, temp was 47, wind seemed 40+ and a nasty looking front coming up El Cajon so my brother and I packed it in and headed back to Vegas early.

Sunday morning was cold and windy. The wind was blowing down track. My timing slip said the wind was at 24 mph blowing wsw @ 9:50 am. Later in the morning the winds pickup and were blowing the cones over on the track. I starting packing up about 1:00 pm and the SCTA was reviewing the wind conditions to see if they were going to continue or not. I pulled out and headed back to Vegas at 1:15 and the race was still on hold pending a check of the course and the wind.

We only raced on Sunday. I missed Saturdays free HP sleeping off the flu in my trailer.
Sunday AM was nice, track was a bit loose. Round 5 had us on wind hold for a while, but they eventually let us run when the cross wind died down a bit. It was a 22MPH WSW I think when I ran the second time, strongest at mid course, but the last 1/8 was cake with a nice tail wind.

Big roots blower on nitro, I heard Davidson saying he just gave it a little throttle.
I took the videos [ learning how] and my video camera doesn't do justice to the real sound.

Anyone have any info on how racing was today.
-
still waiting
-
I tried several times to get through on the cell phone, must not be getting service in that area. Could be the storms between here and Elmo. Just have to wait awhile.
-
From a spectator's point of view it looked okay. While I was there one car spun and most of the bikes looked good going the track. It sounded like most of the guys were on full throttle without letting off the pedal throughout the mile, I would I assume it was plenty dry.
-
I just heard the course was junk and speeds were down for the cars. Bummer.
-
Glen hit it right on the nose!

Confirmed, just got off the phone with Tim McMaster in the #416 Unibody Ford. Course turned to powder in sopots and he had traction issues.
-
I quess you have to be in the drivers seat to fully understand how the track really is...what a newbie.... :-D ......

Very cool video thanks for sharing. seems like it was a slow day at the lake bed.

Results are now posted on the SCTA website.
Tman, that is one of the best in-car videos I have seen at El Mirage. With a starting position of "56" you could see how the course had gone south after the 1/2 mile.

Is it my computer? When I click on the results on the SCTA site I get the results for Sept. 2010. Its either wrong or I got a record and I wasn't even there!!
-
I looked under El Mirage, then Event Results -- nada. (No July results, either, but after a while I figured that one out.)
-
I just went back and had anther look. Same as before. July cancelled, Sept. is still the results for Sept 2010. If they don't notice maybe I'll get another record.
-
I sent Ed a note to correct it.

The course surface was powder and I couldn't even get into 6th gear on my faster bike. My streetbike ran 14mph slower than last time so I would say it was super challenging. The launch was good but 1/3 track it just went to powder and there was no traction to be had (for me). The headwinds were also there, blowing the balloons on the course markers all the way over to the dirt, 12-16mph on most of my runs.
It's hard to figure out how to run in those conditions and it's easy to say "oh well, we didn't do it because of the conditions". But Ralph Hudson figured it out - he put 3mph on the 1000cc APS-G record. I had just finished a run when I heard his bike coming down track. It sounded like a banshee from hell on Monster energy drink and mini-thins. It was a pleasure to watch.
We drove 1500 miles-ish round trip and I only slept about 3 hours in 3 days but I got four runs in total, 2 on each bike. Even in those conditions and with all the effort it took to get there and running as slow as we did, it was totally worth it :) It always is. We could have had more runs but I decided to call it early and get a headstart on the drive home. Well, my wife drove and I slept
On one of my runs, I was watching the tack flick back and forth from 9,000-12,000 like a metronome as the tire alternately spun and hooked and the bike would walk and pitch all over the place while leaned into the cross wind. Where else do you get to live life like that?!?!!!
I love El Mirage!
-
Ah ha! Now I know who Shane San Miguel is. I sent you off many a times down the long course at Speed Week. I knew I recognized your black & orange bike. I also sent you down course this meet too.
Everyone on the starting line was very impressed with your riding style. You were getting on it hard.

With what seemed like only 60 entries he very well could have been number 56...
-
I am sure you guys are right and I am wrong. He made it sound like a long line, guess we were spoiled at Speedweek :-D
-
Looks like a total of only 80 entries at El Mo and 7 records...
-
any news about todays racing.
-
D III bumped up the B/Fuel Streamliner record by by 3 mph. They changed the ignition box and went out again and I saw them in impounds....I'm sure they did it again.
I was way bake in line (#170) and ran with a 19 MPH headwind while the guys in the morning fought a lot of dust from no wind......I increased my speed by 10mph (approx 10mph head wind) on the second and final pass but didn't find my way to impound...Looks like I should take something from my B'ville set out for next month.
Not very many made second passes......................Damn I forgot how dirty a black car gets.................................JD
-
thanks jimmy for that update. how was the track and does anyone have a car/bike count.
-
I think they said 83 entrys
-
We dont like the wind but we need some wind, we didnt get our first run in until @12;00 due to delays from standing dust. Im no expert but the track was real nice. Now are there any 2-stroke experts out there that can get my POS bike out of the 60's?....................for cheap!
-
Lance,
The course was fine for all vehicles that don't have the power to spin the tire(s) down the track...I saw you guys on the return road after my first run I think..
After the first round was complete I was either first or close to it in the second round and it had gone away badly..even that three wheeler I rode at 100+ was skating on the loose stuff..

I had to press refresh to get it, Stan.
Mike

Stan it was there at 4:00pm mountain time and I made copies of, just refresh you computer.
-
I don't know how (or why) to refresh my I-Mac. I have never. That being said, I turned it off and drove to the store and did an errand, came home, turned it back on and nothing there under El Mirage, Event Results. Whoever posts this stuff seems to do it almost randomly. Where is it?

Mike --
Thanx for trying. That ain't there on my machine -- it's blank.
Stan

"Refresh" means about the same on either a Wintel or Apple computer, Stan. It's simply you clicking the button that's (Usually) shaped like a curly arrow, on or near the top of the page. What it does is ask the server to send that page over again - nothing more. Often it sends something that's different (it's "refreshed") because your computer has stored the original page since you first booted up/turned it on this time. It does that to save time in loading - but it means you'll see what was on there earlier today, not the absolute latest.
Therefore -- during the Shootout, for instance, when I'm posting constantly -- viewers press the refresh button to see my latest posts since the posts otherwise wouldn't show up 'til the viewer changed away from the page and went back.
Understand? I hope so -- I'm not sure I do now that I've explained it. I think I got it right, though :?
-
Slim --
But I turned it off and went to the store. Started it back up from scratch.
Now I've done as you told -- and it's there.
That being said, how do I ever get new posts (as I always do) when I restart my computer?
Oh well, it works (or at least the heading is there now).
Thanx,
Stan

Crank the handle on the side of your computer faster. It should show up then.

What a fantastic weekend to close the season. IMO, the course was awesome.
Big thanks to everyone in the SCTA and Volunteers for a perfect weekend.
-
Even tho I haven't been going to El Mirage in the last few years I thought it was a great meet. The weather was perfect and the light rain Friday night made for heavy "dust" which cleared quick. In the last 2 months we made 6 passes which would normally been a year for us. Came close to a record which we were hoping for but learned a lot with that many passes.
I like to thank the entire Board of Directors and all the volunteers for their service this year especially D3 who felt 2 years ago he was in over this head. He has done an outstanding job and I'm sure his predecessor will do the same...........JD
-
Unh, J.D. -- it's Jon, the comma cop guy, a/k/a Slim. "Predecessor" is the one who came before, so here it'd mean whoever had the D3 job before he got it. Perhaps you meant to say D3's "successor".
Okay, over to you.
-
Sure did look like JD had fun the last two meets......
-
I stand corrected......................Thanks for the pics..Mike..................JD
-
I just now posted Dan Warner's El Mirage Roundup for the November 2011 meet. It's on the home page (www.landracing.com) for your reading pleasure. Thanks go to Dan for keeping us all well-informed about El Mirage - all year long.
-
Dan is dedicated to SCTA and all that makes it happen. He always gives 100%. Tell him thanks when you see him at work at the lakes and Bonneville. His input is always welcome and SSS gets it posted ASAP. Till next season have a good rest and getting it all together for 2012.
-
Glen, I am afraid that if and when I actually meet Dan, it might be in impound, and if so I will probably need a pair of vicegrip's on my peepee waiting to find out what and where I f**ked up in reading and interpreting the rules............. but boy, do I ever appreciate and have respect for what he does and has done to further our sport. This respect includes people like the Volk'
s, the Burklands. the Vesco's, the Nish's, you Glen, people like Dan, the safety personel, course workers, and the tech inspectors who start each day knowing that every entrant is as nervous as a whore in church.
Please, don't any one of you ever quit... not only our sport, but EACH of us need's your personal sacrifice to make our dream's happen.
May God bless you all.................. and please interpret the rules as I see them..........
Bob
-
Even present at Shootout as inspector, Mr. Warner was busy from one end of the track to the other, helping Cook's crew, driving the track looking for lost plastic bits, cleaning up after the M/C fire, always busy. And he answers folks questions, both at races and on this forum, making life easier for a lot of people. Then again, in impound . . . . .
-
Dan, ..... but boy, do I ever appreciate and have respect for what he does and has done to further our sport.
Bob
what I've been wanting to post for some time now .
from what I have learned on the forum , dw goes the extra mile
and then some 4 the car guys. ( and you sure don't have it easy with the rules and regs ).
motorcycle specs are a piece of cake compared to the 4 wheelers .
bill franey
-
Have you ran a roadster Bill?
-
Have you ran a roadster Bill?
no I haven't.
and I'm not really sure why you ask ?
-
You said motor cycle rules were easy. Is that why there are 1800 classes.
-
I don't want a compliment to pizz anyone off.
the rules to build a bike are very easy compared to what
it takes to build a car for lsr . ( imo )
I should've included all the others who put so much time and effort into making this sport work.
-
Not picking on you, the rules are usually hard for the ones who don't run that category. I guess the committees are needed for 2 & 4 wheels to keep us all straight. Have a great day.
-
Anyone have any info on todays racing.
-
I heard it was hot, windy 15-20 mph winds, a few spins and lot a motorcycles and a few new records and the course went away. Some stuff on face book.
-
Any news about todays racing.
-
Anything from anyone?
-
Small turn out (no idea on numbers). We had three rounds. No incidents that I know of. Seemed like a bunch of records were set. It was 'hot' but not miserable. Everyone packed everything up in preparation for Speed Week. The end.
-
Any news from the lake bed today.
-
Rick Ran a great two passes of 258 and I found out its better to keep the rubber side down. :-D
We did run 250+ on our dirt bike...Womack and I both ran our second fastest passes ever in the dirt, he ran 244+ and I should have moved to the #3 position for the bikes in the points chase.
Derek won the automotive points chase and I believe GG won the club championship. Len Jones should have won the points on the bike side with his sidecar.
911 car broke something today after yesterday's 235 mph run.
Not many people were in the Lanes today when we started the racing..beautiful weather and no wind..Rick was the talk of the event with his 258 mph passes.
-
Does anyone know how fast the electric bike went.
-
Which one?
-
Oh there was more then one i did not know that. a friend of mine was out there on saturday and saw an electric bike run and did not hear how fast and asked me if i could find out.
-
Kent Riches bike raced by Dustin ran I believe 174 on a recently set new record speed of 189 mph and it finished second in the SCTA Motorcycle points championship.
-
john did you set a record today on your dirt bike.
-
john did you set a record today on your dirt bike.
Yesterday we set a record of 250 mph..today I fell off at the line and chose to not make any further runs.. :-D
-
sunday late morning showed 110 entries in reg.
i am sure many retreated to warmer environments sat night.
-
so does anyone have any info for saturday or are going to need to wait till sunday for any news.
-
Got a text from Steve Papi Chappell after he set the 1650 prod at 195 and change. It was a nice interruption while in the shop working on my own.
Hurray SPC!

We need to make a new forum = Elmo 2013, this old one goes back two years.
-
It's easy enough to start a new topic, so maybe one of these days it'll happen. I guess I could do it - stay tuned.
-
636 Camaro at ElMo We got in and through tech on Friday. Roger had to work til noon in Bakersfield so he didn't get there til 3 on Friday. He crunched the cab corner on his Mega cab Dodge kicking the 5th wheel rolling motel into our pit spot..... it happens. We made 2 runs on Saturday. I went 190 and then Mark went 192. We both thought it felt down on power so we put some more timing in it for Sunday. Roger ran on Sunday, it sounded a lot stronger right off the push truck but he slowed down course. We all thought it lost a clutch until we were putting the rollers on. Thats when we discovered we broke the right side axle. We will be back in June for the assault on the 205 minimum

NOTE: New Site for ELMO
it is El Mirage 2013
