Today winds of 71 mph and some rain. Not sure if Lynda would want to venture out to the salt today as she was planning.
-
So far this week we've had about 2-1/2 inches of rain, water keeps getting deeper and deeper on the salt! I don't think we'll have morons out on the salt ruining the tender new surface for a while! :-D
Hope everyone is safe with all of the flooding going on. See you in August!

Does anyone have any information on Salt conditions? Given the considerable moisture and snowpack this year, does anyone have any current predictions as to whether we're all going to be on the Salt in August?
-
I just (6/12/11, 11 am, MDT) looked at Weather Underground:

I saw that a band of thundershowers had just passed over the salt. I dunno if it dropped any rain or not...but in the Salt Lake City area we're having a wonderful mid-April day. Too bad it's mid-June.
I'm crossin my fingers in hopes that the salt is nice and dry and hard in a coupla months.

Lynda went to the salt and took the photos you see here. And she added a bit of commentary, too. I'll put that after the photos. There being four photos -- The first one is sorta of a warning/reminder:

Okay -- three photos at Land's End showing the condition of the salt.

Okay. Here's what Lynda said:
Jon,
I went out to Land's End today and took some pictures, since I have CRS, I'm sending the photos to you so that you can put them on the forum.
I got there just in time to watch Mr. Tow pull the 4th vehicle in 3 days out of the mud....all of them have gotten stuck in the same area!! It was wonderful! lol The water isn't deep, but it sure is helping to distribute the salt! All we need now is some summer temperatures and a bit of a breeze and the water will be gone!
Can't wait for my hug from you and Nancy!!!
Lynda
Heck -- there's a duplicate coming into here, too. Forgive me, hey?

I think that bottom shot is the biggest I have ever seen posted on this site.

First of all -- maybe I'll more this topic over to Bonneville General Chat -- since the condition of the salt affects all of the events, not just SpeedWeek. But that's later -- first here's an aerial photo taken day-before yesterday (14 June 2011). I don't know what's "base camp", but I do know what the blue areas are -- and it looks good from here.

I got the photo via Ron Main. I dunno, maybe he and George Poteet are going on a Boy Scout hike on the salt

Base camp is for a advertisment shoot. From that height all the green is where we run and looks to be miles long.

Isn't this pretty typical for this time of year?
-
Yes it is. There are always those that are alarmed by blue indicators. The advance team has a date, Dallas' dad visits the salt often. Those are the people I listen to. I will wait for them to tell me to unpack.

I would much rather have them tell you to pack............ and head out.........

I am always packed for a trip to the salt. Travel light, should I have that Weiner guy send a text?

Like DW, I always have a bag packed and ready to go. It will be dry and fast in August.
