Title: ECTA 2010 Safety Requirements for cars
Post by: LittleLiner on December 30, 2009, 03:33:02 PM
For ECTA AND ECTA ONLY - - - - -

I know there is another thread that has talked about helmets, 2010, etc.  However that thread got all wadded up discussing things like does '2005' mean 'only 2005' or '2005 and later', etc, etc, etc . . . .    I am starting a this new topic which is specific to ECTA and ECTA Only . . . . . .  Not bikes, just cars.

For Maxton cars and Maxton cars only>

For 2010 - are HANs type devices required for any cars - new or not?
For 2010 - are HANs type devices required for any cars that do not exceed 135mph?
For 2010 - are M2005 Helmets allowed in all cars?  Are they allowed in cars that do not exceed 135mph?

From what I understand the October 09 ECTA news letter will have some 2010 Rules Updates,,, this should or may be out well in advance of the 2010 rule book.

On my new build, we are going with the premis that HNR's are going to be required in 2010 (even if they are suggested for 2010 and required for 2011) we are going to use them no matter what. Also for Helmets  I use a SA2005 now and later this year when the SA2010 comes out, I am going to get one of them too.

We all want a SAFE and Happy New Year,,,

As I prepare for Bonneville I'll be fitting the cage, fire bottle, competition belts, etc, etc . . . But for April at Maxton I don't have time to do all that.  My car probably won't go over 110mph (heck I'll be happy with 90).  As an under 135 car I am not required to have anything but production safety gear and a helmet.  I have a perfect, worn once, properly stored, M2005.  I would rather wait for the SA2010 helmets to replace the M2005.

LL,

I would think for 2010  the  Snell M2005 should be Ok (just wear a SFI head sock)... I am not sure, but it would seem that in this transition year it would be OK.... The new rules should come out soon.

The Rulebook Changes will be posted on the front page of the Website in about 2 weeks.

Helmet Requirements
January 1, 2011, you will be required to wear a Snell Certification 2005 or newer helmet.

The balance of your questions will be answered very soon.
