Title: Utah road closure
Post by: AJR192 on August 03, 2008, 01:39:11 AM
Any and all coming to the salt via I-80 from the East should be advised that the westbound lanes of I-80 will be shut down from 4:00 P.M. August 9th through 4:00 P.M. August 10th. They will be replacing two overpass bridges. The best alternate route would be to take the I-84 exit at Echo and go through Weber Canyon to Ogden. Then just rejoin I-15 Southbound to Salt Lake. It is a little farther, but on the upside, the cafe where they filmed the bar scene from The World's Fastest Indian is just to the North of the highway. Also, the following weekend UDOT will close the same stretch of highway to Eastbound travellers. Hope this helps.........

Are we talking east of SLC or east of Wendover (west of SLC)?  :?

We go that way all the time, avoids the steep grade up and down to Salt Lake.  From Evanston to the airport it is 9 miles further than going through SLC, but we actually get there faster by eliminating the 25 MPH pull up the hill and the 100 MPH ride down  :-o  a lot less crap in your pants as well.

We used to go I-80 through Salt Lake City but the last couple of years we went around the other way, I like it better.

Stainless, you sure are brave. Announcing your route as you did gives the Terrorists
an easy plan to get you.

Well, you may as well be the ones to sacrifice yourselves for the good of the nation.

Besides, you are old and...........

Freud, I said where, but not when, my plan is to make them spend days on end waiting for me to show up so they can get me with an IED.  I hope this makes it easier for all the other racers to avoid attack.
You know why you should never take 1 Mormon fishing?  If you do he will drink all your beer... take 2, they keep each other honest...
Now they will be there for sure.... (expletive deleted) Sinners

I-80 through the Salt Lake valley between I-15 and the mountains will continue to be torn up until next year.  They build the new bridges at a "bridge farm" and move them into place overnight.  It's quite a sight to see a 3 million pound bridge moving along at a walking pace.  The total number of bridges that will be replaced this way is far out of proportion to the time required with more conventional techniques and much less disruptive to traffic.  If you just have to use I-80 you can use I-215 through the valley like the long haul truckers and miss the whole thing.  You can see one of the bridges being constructed just south of Parley's Canyon from I-215 on the east end.

We Mormons have been here all along.  If we wanted to get you we would do it at the Wyoming border so there would be less of a mess to clean up in town.  It's the dissidents, now in the TV focus, who have moved in from out of state.  Glen has as many of those "fundamentalists" within twenty miles of his home as I do.  Many "fundamentalists" left the state over a hundred years ago when the LDS Church abandoned polygamy.

No doubt. I have two families of the infamous "Kingston clan" two and four doors respectively from my home. Luckily they are very private and keep to themselves, but they sure do some strange things. People coming and going at all hours, kids that run in the house if you drive down the street. Not a very fun way to live your life.........

Dumb question, but the roads will/are open now. We are leaving on Friday and we got stuck a couple of years back when the 18 wheelers blew up half the highway from Moab, Utah. We had to take a different route to the salt.

Thanks,

The road is open now, Chris. The eastbound lanes of I-80 in Parleys canyon will close at approx 7:00P.M. Saturady evening and reopen Sunday sometime. Which way are you coming??????

Leaving Moab, Utah late Sunday morning via I-70 to I-15 to Salt Lake to 215 north to 80 Westbound and driving the speed limit to the salt.

We tried the "backroad" going west at Lehi to miss Salt Lake, but that about drove me crazy going 55mph on county backroads in a rental. If we were driving the roadster p/u then it would have been a nice drive.

You should bypass the construction in the valley. Good luck and have a safe trip!
