I was considering using the big Honda MX single for a lsr project, and was just curious to see if anyone else has done the same.

I have one in box ready for a future project.
The CR500 is a great choice, I have done a good deal of research on 500cc 2 stroke motors and while there are a few rare motors (gz-Rd-Rz 500) that make more HP the CR is commonly available, easy to work on and has a ton of aftermarket parts and R&D.
A CR500 can make 75 HP with a little work and I hear as much as 200 with unlimited budgets!

yep many people have used dirt bike motors..most without success... probably the most successfull was the can am in the 70's... Costella has had some luck cuz he is using a jackshaft.... ya see dirt bike motors have the wrong primary trans ratio (crank to clutch basket).... they were designed to climb hills and not for high speed... the ratio turns the trans too slowly and torq suffers.... the biggest example is the shifter cart guys... they almost always prefer a road race rs125 motor over a dirt bike cr125 motor.....no you cant really make it up with final drive....

what about the differences between the port 'design/layout' for a mx bike and for a gp bike.
aren't the mx motors designed to spin slower (6k) than a one two five (11,5k)?

As long as we are talking about this what about snowmobile engines? I have been thinking about a new project using one. For christ sakes don't tell my wife! Vince

I don't think you can use a sno-mcheen motor on a two wheeled vehicle.

if you are talking about car, liner, belly tank.......i think the cvt sucks an awefull lot of juice

You cant use a snowmobile engine in a motorcycle in SCTA,Ithink you could in AMA(BUB). There were some guys back in the 90s that were going pretty fast with a 4 wheel liner, I think.Seems like they were from Wyoming or South Dakota.

I was thinking maybe a-g or a-f. Not necessarily going for the record, i just dont want to go all the way to the salt from georgia without getting to play too. :-D
I appreciate the lead on the engine, thats not a bad deal at all.
Maybe I should buy this one and hack it up instead??
The very first RD 500, frame number 000001, engine
number 000001,the bike is 99% complete,and the price is 50000 usd,the bike is placed in copenhagen Denmark.

Like I said, probably no record attempts this time. BTW, I spoke with Mr. Guthrie, and it was a de-bored TZ750 :-o :-o :-o.
BTW, the engine was sold :(

Have you ever thought about the old Suzuki GT380 and GT500 2 stoke triples.. I know they are old,,, but man woukd they fly,,, I know you guys had have piloted them in the late 70's early 80's? Kawasaki has the 500 and 750 two stroke triples,, They where wiked fast, but suffered from terrible head shake over 130 unless you wrenced the factory steering stabalizer to full tight.
But WFO was the game back then on the old triples...?
