Title: Voluntary worker for the speedweek
Post by: speedski on June 03, 2007, 04:11:42 AM
I went from France on Bonneville in 2005 during my holidays and i loved this event.
I would like to be more involved now and propose to be "voluntary worker" in a team.
I'm not mechanical but I can help for many things.
I organize in France speed ski events and compete in, so I know what is sport and event management and organization.
I have also ability in computing, web and photography.
I don't need money for nothing (it's my holidays) but I don't have a place to sleep during the event !
Don't hesitate to contact me !

Kent:  Nancy and I spent some time with Stephane and his buddies when he was at SW in '05.  You'll have no trouble talking with him -- I've seen what you put up with your workers at your shop, and this guy's better.

Take a look at the crazy stuff that the speed skiers do.  Like -- 150-200 mph on skis, going down a damn near vertical hill!  Wearing aero outfits that look like they're right out of a science fiction movie.

You may just need to rig bunk beds in the rent-a-truck...

For the moment, I don't have booked a flight.
I look for a team or club to help and a place to sleep !

A hammock would be easier to hang in a new spot every night.

Jack, did you and Freud get the Hanger Hotel up and running yet?  This guy could be the temporary manager, sounds like he speaks better English than the couple that ran one of the hotels we stayed in several years ago.

Freud is gonna be pretty busy with the combined kissing , photo, babysitting, and autograph set up he has added to the souvineer sales.
He certainly can use the help.

Hey Stephane
Thanks to a package arriving in my mail box from Chris Chardon, (Bielle Chaude) I was reminded to check on this thread.
If our hotel reservations all come through as planned I should be able to find a place for you to rest.  Worst comes to worst (and I'll have to clear it with my wife first) you should be able to bunk with us.

Our truck looks similar to this  :-D

and should be sporting some stickers from your part of the planet as well.

I'm headed out of town next week touring a marching band to Wisconsin and Illinois, so if you don't read this before then, don't worry I will check on it when I get back.

Alternatively you can contact us through http://1149.ca

Mike

I can't stand it Mike, what is this about? A LSR racer marching to a different drummer?

To tell the truth Dan, I try to stay away from the drummers, they never quit! Rat-a-tat, rat-a-tat,  they'll play on anything at any time. Drives you nuts.

My son plays tuba in the band (Calgary Stampede Showband) and I volunteer as an "equipment guy", which means driving the truck and loading/unloading instruments, building equipment and props, and some minor instrument repair.

Last year for the two weeks prior to speed week I spent my time driving a 5 ton truck through Germany and Austria.  This year it's the run east, high points are Dakota Illinois, Sun Prairie Wisconsin, Greenfield Illinois and Racine Wisconsin.  The we race back to Calgary in time for the Calgary Stampede.

I get the feeling that volunteering to excess runs deep in the LSR community.  That's something I really felt in '04 when I went early to help with the site prep. My need to volunteer found me this big space with the band to fill.
