Here are the pics that Rchop (Randy Smith) took today while we were at El Mirage today. It was my first trip to the lake bed and I must say I have been really excited building my bike and knowing I will be able to race in the near future. Today has sent my anxious/anticipation meter through the roof! I had a blast today and met a lot of really great people. John Noonan and his wife included in that group. ( BTW, John I found the hyperspace button!) Everybody I spoke with today was very informative and helpful. If there is a pic of you and your bike or car please speak up as I would like to try and put a few faces with a few names.

Okay, I give up. What class is that 250 running in -- the one you say went 109 on an 89 mph record? I see only one 89 mph record in 250, and that's Dale Martin's sidecar rig. Or -- is this one of the records that isn't shown in the rulebook?
Nice photos, though. Oh, yeah -- Umh, unh, without getting too personal -- did John and Michelle finally tie the knot?

Great to meet you, the bike was an electric bike and was timed at 61mph on Saturday, I am not aware of any other runs, Michelle and I are not married....yet.

Nice Picks....One of the cars pictured came to impounds for a record...Can't speak for the M/C's...You pick it...

Just curious on what FRAME class that electric bike runs? I understand the engine is omega, but frame class does it fit into. Since it got points for club, I assume it was NOT a TIME ONLY.

http://www.killacycle.com/about/
" Including burn-outs, the KillaCycle could make 7 or more runs on one charge (not at max performance.) "
Would definitely have to run at less than full throttle to get the distance, or add extra battery capacity.
The KillaCycle weighs 619 lbs. and I *think* there is an FIM class for under 660 lbs, I would love to see him attempt it.
Jon,
The assumption I have made that an engine swap is an engine swap, even if it's a motor :) I have not yet confirmed this, but only want to run a bike to prove out the drive train and some assumptions I'm making, then run a streamliner. I suspect any record on a bike would be short lived, since streamliner is a valid class for omega engine.
Another electric motorcycle ran at BUB, but have no idea what it did or who it belongs to.

Jon
That bike ran on Sunday at least once.
-
it fit into the omega frame class... if you ever have a question about a frame class, look in the back of the book for a computer code... if there is a computer code you can run it for a class record and points. it was a new bike and a rookie driver so he made a rookie pass then moved into the other lanes to run for points. he ran 60 something on a 100 min so no record but still was able to get starting position points

Kent,
I think he is asking "where can I get a fast bike"
-
Kaz:
If you're talking about one of the front-wheel holders -- that you plug into the receiver -- all it takes is some channel, some tube, a few odd pieces to brace, and so on -- weld up to fit your needs. Make sure you measure the height from receiver to ground correctly when building, and when you make that measurement -- figure that your tow vehicle will be fairly well loaded and therefore low, and also include the weight of the bike. If not -- you run the chance of plowing a furrow down the return road as you pull the bike. As always -- DON'T ASK ME HOW I KNOW!.
And also keep in mind the problem that you'll have if the outriggers that hold the front of the bike don't allow for turning -- or you'll hurt something, like the afore-mentioned steering stops.
It's because of these things, and a few other issues, too, that we've gone to a wheeled tow-back rig. This works way better -- and can be bolted to the floor of the trailer, the bike strapped to it -- and then off we go cross-country hauling the bike on the hauler in the hauler. Good Luck.

John,
I Had a different chain guard ,and body work setup before so I put it on frame 1st.Then I changed the guard because of the new rule, and put the new one of that :?. So if/when I get to tech my bike again I will use what ever one they want !You sure don't miss much do you Eagle Eye's :-P! With the new Body work on you cannot see the one on the frame so I put new one on the chain guard .
Thanks for noticing!
I've had to rebuild the bike completely in hopes of some day getting my AA LIKE YOU WORLDS FASTEST !
Now if she will just stay together long enough I hope to go Really Fast Like You 8-).

Kaz,
I glad to see that your bike is making noise! Maybe all I needed to do was move so Gil had space to work on it!
Go to http://topgear-products.com/ for the bike hauler. They are fairly easy to make, but for his price, why waste the time! Tell Jim I sent you.
Hope to see you on the dirt/salt soon.
-
A problem with the bike hauler as shown here -- and the ones that I built from scratch, which are damn near identical to these -- is the the tie-downs, being fixed to the vehicle (whether to bumper or to the outriggers on the hauler per se -- is that when the driver of the tow vehicle turns, the bike rear tire swings to the inside of the turns -- and since there's a steering head angle involved, there is a large force placed on the outside-of-the-turn tie down trying to pull the bike back to upright. Result: The clip-on gets warped into submission, or the tie-down fails and the bike falls over. Want something even worse to happen? Walk away for a moment, and have someone decide that your rig is in the wrong place, decide he should move it, and therefore backs it up. Big damage when the turning stresses are applied! El Mirage November '04, I think it was, when we learned this lesson.
We suffered this more than once, and that's why we went to the trailer-ette where the bike is secured only to the trailer. Go ahead and use a hauler like the one shown -- but beware of me coming up to you, seeing your bent bike, and saying "I told you so!".
-
S.S.S.,
You are correct with your information. I have experienced the same issues. That being said, I used the device when I hauled my whole operation to the Bub event in the back of my F150. This device was brought to the salt in the receiver (inverted) so it took no bed space.
You have an awesome set up, it can tow the bike safely and securely without issue. The Top Gear or similar device CAN be a nice alternative considering space, and budget.
I killed one of my steering stops at the 6/10 El Mirage meet and was saved by the help of fellow racers. Like a sharp knife, the bike hauler works well, if you know how to use it and display caution.
We have a device in the works that is the same concept as your hauler. Thanks again for your "don't ask me how" experiences.
