Were did these peakout top speed wise?
Quit breaking records?
Where there SOHC 427 cars?
Cobra 428? 429 and 460? Lincoln 430 and 462?
Looks like small blocks could run in a class of their own.
Interested in era when these were new stuff. Probably from the late 50's into the 80's.

Challenger 2 had a couple of SOHC 427s in 1968... but never ran
Hopefully Danny sold them to buy the Hemi's and used the rest of the money to help pay for the car upgrades
Lots of drag race history though

Didn't Jerry Kugel run an SOHC in a modified roadster?
-
What about Ermie?

Yes

What about Ermie?
Yep, him too!
-
How about Mickey Thompson with Challenger II before Danny converted it to Hemi's... 8-)

Reading Tom Medley's 'History of Hot Rods:Book 1
They are up to '52 First Hemi shows up.
Raises some questions.
Also first year (about) for Y Block Lincoln and Ford at the So Cal lakes.
How did they do in streamliners?
Unlimited class. Full cubic inch, supercharged and alcohol, nitro.
-
Don't forget the Herda streamliner set FIA records in the mid 60's with blown SOHC Ford power, into the 350mph range and may well still be the fastest Ford powered car.
There is also the currently campaigned Don Nuss streamliner with FE Ford injected on nitromethane fuel.
-
Gave up on attaching picture of Herda streamliner.
Very cool looking car.
How fast did late Hemi's go?
Okay.How about early Hemi's too?
-
Kid, email the picture to me and I'll post it for you.

Most recently I believe the fastest Ford is Don Nuss's streamliner & the last time I talked to him he had some young guy driving it for him.

I think Roger Lesman has the fast Ford engine car. He ran a 370 mph mile at World Finals in 2018 with a 380 exit.
I think he's running AA/ BGS currently.

Better picture...

We were on a check out pass and ol feather foot was light on the pedal, 60% throttle through mile 4. Pitched a rod on the back up run. Plan to be back on the salt this year and shooting for 400. Doing it with compressed natural gas for fuel. 572 ci BBF, twin turbos, Motec tuned by ShaneT.
-
Yeah, that's right, now I remember the CNG part of the story.I enjoy hearing your adventures with the fuel. I bought a GMC Jimmy 350 V8 running on CNG from the fleet of the local natural gas company and drove it for years - gave me a link to your car. Best wishes for the coming year.
