Title: Tire usage for incremental speed increases
Post by: n49racer on April 07, 2014, 09:23:34 PM
Hi all
We are upgrading our Rear Engine Roadster to run 300+ mph in the AA/BFRMR class. Currently we have Goodyear LSR drive tires on the car and have ordered M/T tires. The question I have is,

Is it acceptable to run the Goodyears in our incremental speed increases until we reach close to the 300 mark then change to the M/T tires when attempting runs over 300?

As there is no current record we thought we better ask. Just trying to save the M/Ts until needed.

The Goodyears aren't good to 350?  I would have thought they were.  Seems like Ron Main used them to close to 400... maybe ... What does Dave at Goodyear say

I think most of the factory recommendations are tongue in cheek and you are really on your own. If you look for land speed tires on the Mickey Thompson site they show several. [There is a caviat: Not for Land Speed Racing].

I wouldn't worry about it until you were over 300 as long as you were within the load limits and were trying to just sneak up on 300 and then over in steps.  Unofficial but I thought that they were allowed in some cases over 300 if shaved.   I'd probably take it to Lee Kennedy, but since there is no existing record over 300 in the class you should be legal getting there.

I know you mentioned "drive tires",  I'd have the 'real' land speed tires on both ends of the car if you don't at those speeds and not 'drag front runners' (not sure what you have).  Good luck,

Sum

we are using the drag front runners on the frt but do plan to change to the LSR tire.
