There you go, boys and girls -- a nice, fresh, unused topic so you don't have to go back through a couple of years of posts. Of course, if you want to do that -- look for "Today at Elmo".

Did anyone get any pictures of the AIR Gas Roadsters? Please post them as I forgot my film.

We had a great weekend, our 1st run with our slapped together back up motor we ran a "blistering" 98.6mph. A personal best for our team. The rest of our runs weren't to good. Its been a long 6 months off and it was nice to get back at it!
-
I agree with Faded. It was a fantastic magical weekend back on the dry lake. I'm super happy to be back, and even happier with our last run setting another record for our little team. The magic is back!

You might tell us who it is and what they did . . .
-
I'm waiting for the results from the first AIR Roadster.
Was it a Studebaker-, Oldsmobile-, AMC-, Packard-, Cadillac-, Chrysler Hemi-, DeSoto-, Dodge-, Y-Block-, or even Chevy-powered Roadster that set top time for the class?
-
There were a whole bunch of those AIR roadsters, but they were going by so fast, all my photos came out blurry . . .
-
A quick scan of the results shows none of the 1000s of roadsters sitting around made an appearance, 160 minimum muist be too high.

636 Camaro at ElMo We got in and through tech on Friday. Roger had to work til noon in Bakersfield so he didn't get there til 3 on Friday. He crunched the cab corner on his Mega cab Dodge kicking the 5th wheel rolling motel into our pit spot..... it happens. We made 2 runs on Saturday. I went 190 and then Mark went 192. We both thought it felt down on power so we put some more timing in it for Sunday. Roger ran on Sunday, it sounded a lot stronger right off the push truck but he slowed down course. We all thought it lost a clutch until we were putting the rollers on. Thats when we discovered we broke the right side axle. We will be back in June for the assault on the 205 minimum
-
Why would you run your AIR Roadster this year? Didn't find it; but is there no points for #1....If I had one I'd run the record as high as I could in the first meet and foul up the points for the guys waiting in the weeds...but that's just me..JD

Im a motorcycle guy but Im curious??? Whats an AIR roadster, please define in english for this dummy. :?

It would be proper to use film for these vintage cars.

And now -- the new records:
MOTORCYCLE RECORDS
I'm the "Pending" he mentioned at the end. Didn't have time for a seal before season start, so I'll meet up for measuring next week with an inspector. They sealed my motor in impound (where the old one was) until I meet up with Matt or Tom. Nothings changed in our Bore/Stroke since last inspection, so all should be good.

Thanks ---Dan and Jon

Dan sends the reports to me and I put 'em on the site. In the past I usually only put them on the home page =-= but seeing the comments here I think I should put them on the Forum first -- and maybe on the home page. I know Dan sends the same stuff to Wendy at BRN and Ed at SCTA-BNI.org and others, too, so he's doing his best to get the word out to one and all. I'm glad you're satisfied with having them here.
Whether you're satisfied with the speeds you ran isn't my problem, though.

What does the 05/13 on the record represent??
-
I just received a note from Miriam MacMillan asking me to remove/unpost the EM Impound Insights and the records from the May event. I've taken them off the Forum and will now take them from the home page. I will wait for her to explain her decision - but want to maintain the best relationship I can have with SCTA/BNI and landracing.com, so they're gone for now. I hope to be allowed to re-post them later.

John,
The 2013 edition of the El Mirage Procedure Manual, in the back, where the minimums are listed shows the H/FMS min to be 130.000. Unbroken records in near classes are in the same lower speed. We site still needs work.
Lance,
Elmo is correct. The 05/13 relates to May 2013 meet.
The pulling of the records was my fault. I was premature in posting the corrected records from he original file. The work is being done today to get the records on the SCTA-BNI website and then here.

OK, I was just looking at the SCTA website. So if the website and the EMP differ then the EMP wins.

Always. I work on the EMP, not the website.

I like getting the results as fast as the next guy but, I'd rather wait and have them right. God nose we have enough problems with the left wing news wanting to be first to blame B--h for everything in a matter of microseconds.
We waited 2-3 weeks in the "old" days and I'm happy to wait a few extra days even these immediate "gotta know now" generation. Thanks Dan for doing your best.........J.D.
-
I think the "news" is mostly right wing. Far, far right.
But then again, there is a difference between "God Nose" and "God Knows".
Glad to see the Orange Show go back to dirt. May have to go back. Might even be as fun as the Super Modifieds were with Buick, Cad, and Chevy-powered Model As and 32s.

I would love to see the same thing. I helped Harry make his pass on Saturday. The bike seemed to run out of fuel and I guess he didn't get it sorted out because I couldn't find him Sunday. It left the line plenty strong and you should hear it. :-o That is one bichin bike and Harry is really cool. Wayno

This morning the results of the meet were confirmed. Follow the link at www.scta-bni.org and you will now know the whole story. My thanks to Pam Manghelli for her patience with me and Ed Safrick for his not questioning my change requests.
The June results will not be here until the correct ones are on the SCTA website.
Thanks everyone on the board for their understanding that I must be retrained each new season,

Apparently
DW
-
Fred...yes he does..if he doesn't run over 250-260+ at Bonneville I will be very surprised  His bike went in the 230's on it's first pass and took one of those Noonan records  I would bet he could run in the 245 range at ElMo with his bodywork in the 1K classes
John
-
Ralph continues to amaze me. I wish I had some bodywork that worked as good as his!!
-
Jim Hoogerhyde 220mph... fastest n/a bike on the dirt. Wild.
-
Nathan,
Their bodywork is definitely working!!
220 on Nitrous. :-o I thing Jason held that record at 202, Jim then ran 203? and now he buries the record
J
-
no nitrous on this bike. :-D I did try some newer fuel from ERC that we ran at bonneville last year and its obviously working pretty good.
We are just as surprised by those runs since our new motor isn't ready yet. The only thing we changed from last year was Bondo. Lots and lots of Bondo. It's much more affordable than horsepower. We have a few more tricks to try next week and the new goal is to beat the blown fuel record unblown. Just a personal satisfaction thing. That record is 224.577mph. I know it's a long shot and we might have to wait for the new motor but I think it's possible.
Jim
-
Jim,
Way cool either way and even more impressive , I ran a 234 top speed at Bonneville unfaired blown 1000 and set a record at 226, if you bring that beast to Bonneville you will go very fast..what did Ralph run faired unblown? 242+?
-
Thank you, John! Ralph did hit 242mph and set the record at 239mph and we were really surprised by that one, too! Ralph and Ted Silver have hundreds of hours squeezing the new turbo into his 1000 since we obviously dont want to budge that fairing one millimeter. It's really nice work and they are both very skilled creative craftsman. We are definetly bringing the beast to Bonneville to try and finally get my Red hat and this feels like the year that it'll happen. I also think your predictions for Ralph are spot on but I'm obviously hoping he goes faster than Al Lamb. We never know until we get there. See you next week!
Jim
-
Jim, like I said before if you guys need rods or pistons let me know, Wossner Pistons sponsors many top teams and would enjoy working with you and Ralph with your pursuit of speed.

Any info on how it went today at the lakebed.
-
Just got a call that the wind is too much to continue.
It didn't sound like they went 2 full rounds.
John
-
Barely started the second round when the winds came up. 20mph cross wind on the far end. It went from bad to worse and they called it at 1 pm. I thought I heard that there were 97 entries. Pretty good turn out. Saturday was a ghost town. Everyone must have heard that it was blazing hot. It was 106 when I got there at 3:30 pm. Ugh.
-
Any news on how racing was today at the lake. pretty sure it was good and hot out there.
-
Any news on how racing was today at the lake. pretty sure it was good and hot out there.
The morning was stellar, not sure about later as we left after Round 1.
Temp was hot, but some clouds obscured the sun which helped.
However, just heard about Bill W. @ the LTA, makes our day kinda deflated now.
-
I personally thought it was a great meet. There were definitely a few records set early on in the morning which BTW was nice and cool with some cloud cover for a while. I had a pretty big group of rookies (big for a July meet). There were a few new vehicles that showed up including a really neat looking sprint-car styled car, a nice rear engine mod roadster from Eddies Chop Shop (http://www.hotrod.com/featuredvehicles/hrdp_1303_couprageous_1937_ford_coupe/viewall.html) and a really big black motorhome of all things. Yes, a motorhome was there to race. No, no class... just TO. I literally had to climb into the thing and get up into the drivers compartment to check the driver's belts.
Once the clouds cleared out it got pretty hot. Other than that the weather held up nicely. The course also held up nicely as well. We got four rounds in as there was a relatively small turn out which is typical for July. I normally don't like July meet's because it can be so f'ing hot but this one was actually a lot of fun.
That's all for now. See ya on the salt!
-
Did the Motor Home run? I know he was scheduled to run last in case he blew the windows out. If so (run), how fast?
-
I think I heard 108?
-
Full cage, door nets, fire system, etc? ...If not I want to run my twin turbo pick-up......
-
Full cage, door nets, fire system, etc? ...If not I want to run my twin turbo pick-up......
Yup, everything. I had to climb up and over the jungle-gym cage to get to the driver.
-
They said they were gonna hold it down to <130 as requested.
(Or, maybe, that's all it did.)
They put a lot of effort in it. It was an old GMC 26(?)-footer, the longest. It was entered at SW last year, but didn't make it. It's got a 502" BBC in it -- front-wheel drive.
They have to replace all the side windows (probably with aluminum panels) before SW.
-
That motorhome was super cool! I'd love to see it seat 15 passengers, though.

Different topic here, folks. I lost my eyeglases at Elmo last Sunday. Did anyone find any?

Dan,
I went to the SCTA website and scrolled to El Mirage on the left side of the page. Clicked it on and chose about El Mirage, another window come up with weather and this site comes up.
So the nice thing about this site is it will predict future days, will the SCTA website do that also?
So everyone knows, how about posting a link to the SCTA weather station site as I could not find it.

Things started on time this AM, Sunday, but there has been an incident early and we are on hold. They are moving the course over. I didn't hear what car it was but the driver was Brian Gilespie. They haven't given word on his condition but it has been a while and we are not hearing any helicopter so maybe it just made a mess of the track and the ambulance guys handled it. Will post if I hear more.

Sorry I wasn't there today, Does anyone know if Ralph Hudson (and Jim Hoogerhyde) won the motorcycle points championship for 2013?
Or if John Noonan went even faster than 250 on Sunday?
Or which club earned the most points this year?
Thanks,

After today's car crash we decided to pack it up and go home so no faster speeds than the 250 from yesterday.
Not sure on what club won..?

Dean I apologize for not spending more time with you.
I appreciate the effort that you expended just to be there and then
to find us was extra special. I'll try to be a better host the next time we are
at the track together. I wanted to make certain that Gil was featured after
the effort that was required for him to attend. He probably used several
days of energy just to get there and then back home. It was so special for
Marlo to have the car ready a year earlier than he had promised Gil and that
added to Gil's surprise. Hearing it run was beyond his wildest imagination.
That took him back 40 years. The car is the same color now as it was the
first time it came to the salt. Later it had a marvelous Candy Apple Red
paint job but this but his was family reunion day.
Thanks for searching us out and sharing a most special day for many of us.
We were surrounded by a group of our very special friends.
I can't imagine what it meant to Gil.
The other person that was so responsible was Gil's brother. He made the effort
to guarantee that Gil was there. That's a dedication that probably only a brother
would show. The next time you see him ask him his name. I've already forgotten it.
Just call it "short term."
These are the people that were directly involved with this project and we should also
include Jason Hosking for making the fuel tank and doing the roll cage.
I apologize to the people that I overlooked.

Dr Freud it was a pleasure to meet you, I can't see how you have anything to apologize for, you treated me very well, I appreciate your time, explanations and insight. I've enjoyed your photos and commentary for years. Maybe next time I can buy you a libation of your choice. Dean

Guys, this is a special thread.
If anyone that doesn't know or understand LSR, I'll make sure to direct them here.
Thanks for the inspiration and Dean, the pics say it all.
Thank you.

Another Elmo in the books. We didn't have everything go perfectly but adversity (fuel pump inertia switch) is what spawns the stories for the future. I could not seem to get ahold of the track, only got one good run in, a 190 on a 205 minimum. Still had a great time, like the Hooley group says, just glad to be here. Thanks to all the crew with SCTA for providing a venue for us to race at. My thoughts go out to the Hasport driver and team, hope you have a full and quick recovery. A question here, who was the timer this past event? If anyone has a contact number, please reply or PM. Tim

Dean,
It was great to meet you. Thanks for saying Hi and posting the pics. As far as we know Ralph won the bike points. Time to get to work for next year! Hope to see you out there.

I assume the timer was Scott Andrews. He's now the "chief timer" for SCTA, right? He doesn't hang out on this Forum so you'll need to track him down using the contact information in the rulebook.

Gonna be a looooong Winter.
Congrats to Ralph, Jim, Jeannie.
You all raced real well this year and it was awesome watching and competing with you.
Big Cheers to Ironwood and P&W Racing.

Thanks Jon :-)

What is your question?

The following was posted on the SCTA website.

11/11/13:
Miriam and I have just returned from visiting Brian Gillespie at the Arrowhead Medical Centre in Colton. He was admitted with a collapsed lung, a cut on his shin and severe bruising around the head. He is progressing very well; sitting up, talking - still sharp as a tack. All the vehicle's safety equipment functioned perfectly. His family extends their thanks to the SCTA for their help and support.

I've just put Dan Warner's "Impound Insights" on the home page of the site, folks, and I'm going to paste it into here, too. Read it and learn -- there's going to be a test at the end of the hour.
IMPOUND INSIGHTS -November 2013
Dan Warner
The November meet was one for the ages. Perfect weather, temps in the high 70s - low 80s and NO wind. We won't talk about the low temps at night, it is the high desert in the fall after all. The SCTA reports 150 entries. An average turnout these days. The end of the season tends to keep those not in contention for the Championship at home. The veteran dry lake racers will show up no matter what.
The El Mirage 200 MPH Club welcomed three new members at the meet;
Brian Gillespie driving the Hasport Hondata G/BGMS entry ran a great 200.9 record which got his club membership, and vaulted him into the points lead for the championship early on Saturday morning. More on Brian later. Keith Pederson got a turn at the wheel of the White Goose Bar Racing roadster. The Waters Manghelli Romero entry ran in F/BFR class this meet and Keith pedaled her down the track at 205 for a merlot colored hat. Keith's record means that all White Goose Bar principles who are driver types are now members of both clubs. Ed Umland, who is familiar with readers of Hot Rod magazine ran his B/BFRMR at a touch over the 240 minimum, 240.481 to be exact. Congratulations to all three, this brings the total of new club members to six for the year. Not bad for a season which had two events cancelled due to wet course conditions.
Other records set this meet include:
Robert Sights Jr with his G/BFMR at 180.105. Dennis Mariani had his new, ex-Seth Hammond, ex Bob Button E/BGMR out this meet and set a new class record of 206. It was hard to find Dennis in the pits because the big hauler was missing. The roadster was on an open trailer, a couple of crew members and some beer - just like the rest of us do. Greg Waters had his chance in the WGB roadster on Sunday and bumped Keith's new record up to 207. Don Ferguson III, D 3, to most all of us ran in XXF/BFR this meet using the Ferguson Ardun heads and SCoT blower repop. D3 ran a great 180 record. The team also had the #76 streamliner out testing their new Hondata engine and driveline combo for some serious records next season. The very successful Youngblood family brought their G/BStR to California from the home in Utah. I have seen them run two roadsters to several records at both Speed Week and World of Speed. The car is tuned by son JD and driven by his sister, the lovely Ali Ercanbrack, noted as Hot Rod Ali on the side of the trailer. Chet Thomas from Northern California is running the 511 Street Roadster as campaigned by Cummins Beck Davidson Thornsberry recently. Chet used John Beck power to set a new AA/StR record of 194 on Sat. He was on a super 200 pass Sun. until the trans would not shift into top gear. Good things to happen next year. Bob Jucweic continues to set records in the Cohn Jucweic Monza, this meet in the E/CGAlt class at 180+. Miriam Macmillan also continues to impress with yet another record in her H/BFCC entry, the Hondata CRX car, this time at 209.3.
I mentioned Brian Gillespie before. Brian set a 200+ record on Sat. got club membership and moved into the points lead. As the other contenders fell away Hasport Hondata was the champ on Sat. night. Anticipation was as high as the sun on Sunday when it was the last chance to catch Brian and the points lead. Early on Brian made a pass and lost control of his car. The resulting tumble destroyed the car and Brian was air lifted from the area. Good news, Brian has injuries that will heal and retained the season championship for cars.
The motorcycle impound had four new records to close out the year. Cathy Butler rode the ACAT/Butler/Erion/Hobbs 650-P-P entry to a record of 171. Jeannie Pflum was on the Pflum and Wagner Racing 1000-A-F bike and upped the class record to 194. John Noonan was on the 1350-APS-BG entry of Big CC Turbo/Noonan and set the class record and Top Speed of the Year for bikes at 250.669. Kenny Schaefer was on the Schaefer & Chambers 1650-A-PF entry and set the record at 182.
This covers the final event of the season. Number one points was Hasport Hondata as I mentioned. Number one motorcycle is Ralph Hudson once again. Top speeds for car and bike were Dave Davidson in the 911 Blown Fuel highboy at 253.394 and John Noonan on the Big CC Turbo/Noonan Hayabusa at 250.669. Both of these speeds were set at the November event.
Detailed results for the season can be found at: www.scta-bni.org
Everyone have a great holiday season and put your thinking caps on so I can report on your successes next year.
