Title: First time visitor advice
Post by: peterdallan on July 08, 2012, 05:31:09 PM
Hi,

We're coming to BUB this year and renting an RV for the duration. One of the group will also rent a smaller vehicle to get around in. Can anyone let me know what would be best type of vehicle that can double up for duties on the salt as I presume we will need a vehicle to collect our bike at the end of runs. I'm guessing something like a dual cab pickup.

Any advice welcome

Thanks

Peter

You are NOT racing with SCTA.......You are racing with Denis Mannings BUB Speed Trials.......You can ride your bike to the start line....AND ride it back after your run........A wonderfull thing.................

PD - At Bubs you can ride the bike back as one option.  I trailer back but mine is a laydown rigid drag frame and it is a little too uncomfortable for casual riding.

I use a 'hitch-haul' rail on the receiver with tie-downs.  If you have a sizable crew, the large pickup or a van works well.

We use Off road quads and side by sides with small trailers to haul our bikes around on the salt but not sure if that is an option for you?

Well it is more for transporting the bike to the start and retrieving it if there is a problem.

I think we will hire a pickup with an 8' bed as we also need to transport the bike to and from SLC airport/customs. Looks like a RAM 2500 can seat 5/6 and take the bike.

as long as it is an extended cab truck then yes it will do all of those things for you but you will need some really long ramps to load the bike as the bed is really high up in the air.

The other advantage of a recovery vehicle is the riders gear and having water .A/C etc. and it's a long way back to the pit area. The bike will be protected from salt spray from the trucks rear tires. Comfort is important on the salt.

Glen and everyone:  good point about having water at the end of the course.  I often don't think about it, but when the course worked shows up at the end of my run, carrying a bottle of cold water -- he/she is ALWAYS welcome.  I don't know if the Bub event has this kind of workers, so having the crew get there immediately would be nice.  It's also good to have someone there to "de-brief" the rider/driver immediately after the run has ended.  Just my opinion, you understand. . . :-)

Water at Bubs. Did someone ask about water at Bubs?

I am the official water sponsor at Bubs so I can assure you the workers do indeed have water available if needed!!!
