Freiburger did a good job on the Bonneville article in the new (Dec '11) issue of Hot Rod. Wayno
-
Yep! I just finished it!
Spread the wealth and go get your copy now! :-D
-
Read mine today. Perhaps this will make the complaints on another post area herein lessen a bit. Seems to me that the best quote is still Alison Volk`s..... :-D

i got my issue of HOT ROD t-day.very good article, well woth reading ...

People that have never been there now know a little more about what we talk about. Good writing by Dave.

I guess that todays society "needs to know" before they leave the driveway.
It never occurred to me that I needed to be spoon fed the first time I went.
I wonder how many questions they ask the new gal before their first date!
It's hard to swallow.

Good article -- it even mentions Salt Talks. Whoo-hoo, we've hit the big time at the Bend in the Road.

The question is does the new gal...........................no, I wont go there
Sub ran out, told em no, the magazine was not worth it but I will buy this one if the coverage is as good as it sounds.

Great line TMAN!
The mag definitly is hot and cold these days. Friburgler is LSR'S man, though, and he's YOUNG (at least by me Glen's standards).
(PS, not sure DrF didn't put some dubble - in ten - dree into his comments).

I have always admired someone who is polite and holds his tongue, when it would be easy to be rude. Someone who like my mother says, If you can not say something nice, do not say anything at all.

:? LOL :-o the one that got me was the 2 cyl article---we went twice as fast for a record with a 1 cyl 500cc motorcycle with a turbo we could only get to produce 1 psi of boost---lol BUT WE also GOT THE RECORD AND A TROPHY

Have you also heard the expression "Practice what you preach"?

Believe me, I was doing my best to do just that.

Apparently you slipped in Reply #9.

If I were Frie and KT I would be be embassed by the opening editorial.......but then.....
The article on Bonneville was good info for the novice but I see rooms harder to get again or still when they try to show up to see for themselves..........................JD
PS: Now that the bias news medial has racing to talk about do to the unfortunate Indy car accident; we all maybe looking for something else to do.........

I would still be embarrassed. Funny how things change or maybe it depends on who you are. Five years ago when we ran our Vintage Moped and set a record at 34 mph, everyone was giving us a hard time and moaning about how slow we were going.
How times change, or maybe the power of the press.  :-D :-D

If you think the 30s are slow, take a look at your 2011 Speed Week results. There is a 350cc motorcycle record of 15 MPH.
I haven't got my Hot Rod yet, can't comment on the issue.

I will try to do better. Especially, I will try to hold my thoughts to myself early in the morning. I think I must have woke up a little grumpy this morning.

From a racer permanently blacked listed from HRM :-D :-o :? :-P

OK, just finished the article.
I liked the first paragraph and photo #22 on page 66. I have no issue with the content. Turkburger told me a couple of years ago that he had this idea for an article. I think it may be of some help to some who are thinking about showing up, it certaintly generate numerous emails with many, many questions. Most members of this board do not have to deal with that stuff, so OK.
I onlyest thing I think David missed is the old folk down at the Kilo Club. If he includes them next year maybe one of them won't get his panties in a wad with this primer. Remember your "See Dick Run" books in first grade? This issue of HR fills that bill.

Actually, this is just the latest version of a Speed Week primer......My Dad got me a copy of the 1957-8 Fawcett Publications book How To Build And Race Hot Rods in about 1969. A very rare book to come across in New Zealand at the time. Flipping through it, I remember vividly the picture of Denny Larsen being pushed off by a near new F100 in his Dreamliner......Reading the rest of the article, and the El Mirage one as well was a life changer for a 12-13 year old kid.....same thing :cheers:as we have here, just a generation removed...
-
The article on Page 28 shows an EcoBoost 4 cylinder engine. I do not know why they say "The bad news" This looks like a nice motor for a guy that prefers four bangers. Is there something wrong with it? My dreams of building a roadster are not dead, just on hold for now.

OK I just finished reading the article and editorial... good article for the bucket list folks, racing or spectating.
I think Fbuger will be disappointed when his trophy doesn't arrive... Dan or someone correct me if I am wrong but I think only the final record holder gets a record trophy from speedweek. I don't know how they would handle the performance award for an open class :|
-
No trophy for the HRM car. The other guy in their class, the mentioned Skip Carlson, ran a little over 100 MPH faster. I quite trying to keep up with the awards a while back, I don't understand the criteria anymore.

I still want to see car FEATURES, like HRM and Street Rodder used to do.
-
And since HRM likes to replicate old cover shots, they need to do the Peek Bros roadster again when it is rebuilt! My favorite issue.
-
Hey! I thought the DEC issue was great! after 18 years of racing it showed my Avanti getting gas at the fuel truck, the only problem with this issue is it will create more new racers at Bonneville. Yesterday morning I saw David F. at the El Mirage race and told him the article was great for folks who have not gone to Bonneville and it provided good orientation for them
-
A minor correction to the article- There is spectator parking area beyond the pits- maybe 500'. We even provide and "sanitary facility" for you.
-
I thought the article was great. I liked the editorial as well. Maybe not the final speed, but the desire to keep trying no matter what.
-
For what it is worth, a hot rod article 42 years ago got a 10 year old kid telling his Mom some day he would go to Bonneville and go 200. I had no idea it would take 42 years to actually get there.

Same here! There was one old codger in our car club that had run 140something in his Model A back in the day and I remember thinking "I'm gonna do that someday".
Thanks HRM for the coverage!
-
Its not the destination. Its the trip.

Great spread...I mean article HRM...
