Here's the latest, following a chat with Denis and Terry Kizer:
The Bub bike's run was aborted because the skids wouldn't retract. They're back here, the chute is repacked, and they're in the queue to make a run. It's back in the trailer right now -- I presume to be moved to starting position.
Terry says that last night they didn't "take it to town for a car wash". That is -- they felt the chain stretched too much on the 282 mph run and wanted to change chains. It's an hours-long job -- and they didn't think they'd be allowed to stayon the Salt that long after closing time, so they'd have to go to town to do the late-nighter. While there -- they might as well wash it at the car wash. Well, they were allowed to stay out here -- 'til 2AM, I hear, and go the chain work done. So now the bike is down here at the start and waiting for a run, just like Bub.
The Bub bike is rolling out of the trailer as I click "post".
Added later: The tow rope is attached to the bike. About a dozen people clustering around it. Apparently Chris is in the bike -- looks like they're adjusting straps. An official is checking wind speed.
