The rules appear to be clear but, do not specify if you can change engine makes all together. An idea I have it to take my entire drivetrain and stuff it into another chassis. In my case it would be a Mitsubishi engine into a Chevrolet chassis. Would this be legal for Blown gas coupe.
They record seems very soft. This might be bacuase you cannot swap makes limiting the creativity and capability of a car but, I could be wrong.

Well, I've got a Pontiac/Chev 4 cyl in my Nissan 240sx GC. Engine swap is anything that wasn't available from the factory ( more or less, paraphrasing here) so you are good to go. Is why a big block Chevy in a '55 Nomad is an engine swap==>Gas Coupe.

Big.. Your question is answered by "that's what the class if for" engine swaps or a quick change rear end. The rules for that class have been the same for over 40 years.
If it is a rear wheel drive vehicle I would be careful with engine set back.
