« on: November 07, 2009, 04:40:16 PM »
Anyone heard yet when the casino's are going to open up to take reservations for the 2010 meet?

Dave, they probably won't open up for reservations for racers 'til they've offered rooms to Deer Widows, Golfers, Concert-goers, Truck drivers, and possibly passing-through railroad workers.  THEN they'll let the racers have at it.

Jon, you forgot to mention itinerant farm workers, lawyers, politicians and other ne'er-do-wells.  They'll get a shot at 'em before the racers do.

I'll bet any and all of them spend more money in the bars and casinos than we do.

Dave,

From what I remember, the hotels "usually" allow reservations for Speedweek between Jan. and March. Hope this helps. Anybody, please correct me if I'm wrong.

No, it just means that the little pink fairy guy from Vegas, that is running Wendover, hates racers and doesn't recognize all of the spectators that travel into town when we're on the salt.

Jon, you got a block for penile device?  (guess not)

I'm a "passing through railroad worker", Slim. Actually the only train that crews stay overnight in Wendover for is a local out of Salt Lake. I caught the brakeman's spot on that train last Sunday. You get to see a whole different side of Wendover by rail. The SCTA will be happy to know their trailers looked alright in the storage yard just off the tracks. It sure gets lonely quick out there though.......

What RR still has a brakeman on the crew?  Most just have a EOT device.

Union Pacific still has brakemen on some locals. The locals that go to Wendover do a lot of switching between Salt Lake and a lime quarry about 20 miles west of Wendover. A third man on the crew makes it quicker and easier to get the industries spotted.

Given as overbuilt as the Wendover Strip has become, I'd say the Casino owners are bad judges of good economic practice.  I stayed one night during WOS at the Rainbow (true, not the big draw that Speedweek is), and I could have played basketball while riding a bull pulling a rickshaw on the casino floor without hitting a guest.

Yah -- and we got $35 a night rooms because the demand was so low midweek -- just like Vegas and Laughlin.

They know they have us captured, where else can we run our cars and bikes?
SCTA should threaten them to cancel speedweek if they double there rates with 3 day minimum and no refund and have it at Blackrock [ I know BLackrock won't work but maybe they don't]
