I don't remember the exact number, but the Mariani XF/BFS ran another 310 on the return run for a blue hat, erasing the old Flatfire record.  That car is a real flathead, but like FlatFire, the intake and exhaust are reversed.    It seemed like just about everybody who qualified yesterday got records, too.  As I recall, we ended up with 9 or 10 new qualifiers today, including Disorderly Conduct, which ran 208+ in C/AIR.  That's close to the 210 red hat minimum, but the driver already has one from a different class. Salt Cat, Potter Bros., and BocksCar all qualified today, too.  I heard that John Levie lost some parts on the long course, and they shut down a bit early.  Although it wasn't confirmed, somebody said that a Vespa running the short course in the 130MPH Club had an incident which resulted in a broken arm for the rider.  The parade of qualifiers is scheduled for 0730 again tomorrow.

I had to return home noonish today, so I missed out on some of the fun.  But I know that several more records were set this morning.  And Stainless put yet another driver in the Bockscar for the meet's first red hat!  Just one each new red and blue hats at WoS 21 thus far.   Several others could have been issued, but the drivers already had 'em.   SAAB Story already picked up one new record and qualified again today.  Chris Mursick's 2-cylinder Karmann Ghia also got one with a new driver and was going to try again after switching from fuel to gas.  Salt Cat had problems.  But the Montana Vigilante transverse V-6 Citation upped its existing record.  John Levie had a brake rotor come apart on him yesterday, so he was down to just one bike, and I'm pretty sure he did get a record with it.  But since i wasn't dealing with bikes, I can't pass along any other info on them.

Had a great day yesterday. Arrived about 9ish headed to the start line. Hung out there a few hours. Finally saw the Nish streamliner in person.
Moved towards the pits, had lunch at Enola gay cafe, bought a few shirts/hat,  filmed a few cars go by at speed. That sound i'll never forget. Saw a storm coming and went back to the start to enjoy more cars.
What a lovely day.

BTW.... I made a few cell vids and was wondering the names and vehicle info so I can put that in the description.

Well I did it. Both my runs were a tick under 152. Got vin the 150 club and got my purple hat. Met up with some old friends and made some new ones. Drove home back to Scottsdale didn't shut my car off because starter acting up. WHO CARES I MADE THE 150 CLUB. I'm happy 10 years in the making. I built the whole car myself and drove it to Bonneville by myself both ways. Thank you to all the volunteers and the USFRA. They did a great job and the salt was perfect. See everyone next year. Maybe I'll give it a go.

The current salt condition shows what can happen in two years of Intrepid not pumping their junk & sucking the salt. This won't last once they have the system up & running again so don't think this is the new normal.

We want to give a massive thanks to all the competitors the came to the World of Speed this year. The track conditions were the best I have seen in many, many years. It is always a pleasure to renew old acquaintances and make new ones as well. Everyone was patient when we had the wind delay, and also when there were difficulties on the courses.
The salt flats racing community is truly a group of incredible people.

We try very hard to make the event productive and meaningful for those that participate. I personally want to thank all the volunteers that make WoS possible. There are a great number of them that we only get to see when the event is held. They gladly give their time and hard work to make this all possible. Thank you to all of you.

As a matter of personal curiosity, I would like some feedback regarding the turn-outs on the courses.  Did they work for you? Were they marked clearly? Did it help to have the lines painted all the way from the course out to the return road?

Please let us know what you think and any suggestions you may have for making improvements for future races.

Monte as I told you and Dennis, we loved the turnouts... They were easy to find with the marked lines, easy to get to and know when you arrived at the return road.  They  were perfect for vehicles that are not good at square 90s or tight 180s...
Keep that in your operation plan

Monte , totally agree with Stainless-you guys knocked it out of the park with the course this year ! It was so easy to see everything, and the turnouts worked perfectly. It was a long haul to the return road but that was only due to the track layout and nature was in charge of that! So keep up the great job that you guys do and I can?t think of anything to change or improve from this year! Thanks again to all the great people of USFRA !! :
