LSR in new Kia commercial
« on: July 12, 2009, 09:59:02 PM »
Has anyone besides me wondered what in the hell vintage footage of Malcolm Campbell's "Bluebird" running across the salt has to do with Kia's new "Forte"?

Saw the ad, I was thinking the same thing, although it is a nice short clip.

I think there are at least 2 ads. One I saw started with the clip and saying we did not invent the need for speed and then goes on to other things they didn't start with the deal that then new car continues those traditions or something.  First ad I saw did not have the explanation, was a bit shorter and was WTF? as you point out.

No jet. It's the massive old Bluebird in grainy black & white on the salt.

Yeah, I've seen it (the ad) I'll agree they didn't invent any of those things they mention, and it remains to be seen that they've 'perfected' any of it, even if you constrain it to that 'class' of car as they suggest.
Just happy to be here. :-D

The car is the 1935 version of Bluebird with the 27 litre R type Rolls Royce piston engine.  The first car to go 300 mph and set a World Record.  Would be nice to think that the manufacturer has paid the Campbell family trust for use of the footage .... but I doubt it.
