Comp Coupe wing height
« on: August 22, 2022, 07:55:07 PM »

Just sent a rule request change that eliminates sentence requiring wings to be at least 6 inches above highest point of the body. This would allow wings to be placed in normal positions such as unlimited sports cars in 24 hr races ECT.
 No other wording changed.

Although I don?t have a wing on my Comp Coupe yet, I often did wonder about the wording and intent of that rule.

So if a wing is less than 6" high it is not a wing and so can be used anywhere/any car? Doubtful. I am glad you are asking for a rule clarification. Thanks for doing that.

The highest point of the body is the roof. current rule states it must be 6 inches above.

Rule change does not change any other wording
.
Don't get were you come up with not a wing and anywhere/any car?  Rule change is for COMP COUPE.

 Read the rule book.

So sorry. I have read rule book. My problem is definition of a wing and when one is, or is not, legal. If a device meeting the aero definition of a wing is set below 6" of whatever surface you want to call the "body",  what is it?

It's still a wing but why would anyone do that? If you're thinking about lower than the deck lid.

But as the max setback allowed is 18 inches behind the body, I don't believe anyone capable of building a comp coupe would install a wing below the deck lid. But they could.
