Title: BUB 2010 & ultra-fast streamliners?
Post by: fjlee on August 23, 2010, 03:21:14 PM

I've heard little news of the ultra-fast streamliners for this years upcoming BUB speed event.

I'm speaking of streamliners like Ack Attack,  Wheelers EZ Hook,  Mannings record holder..... streamliners of that potential.

Is there any newsworthy gossip going around about them?  I am attending BUB as a spectator...and I love the streamliners.

Has anyone built a new one for BUB 2010?  Details?

Extended weather forecast for the salt looks good so far............

I have heard that Ack Attack and the Vincent streamliner are the only 300+ mph streamliners that will be runnning.   Bub 7 will not be run again until somebody beats his record I believe.

That makes sense for Denis not to come out until either his record is beat or his companies finances get better and with the economy we are in it will take some time.

Dan when did the Vincent streamliner run 300+ mph?  I do not recall that?

Dan,

Dont start now.

We all wish Max and team the best and I hope they can do it because Max may not be able to keep trying this as it is so expensive..lets hope for a 300mph for him and his team.

Oh I did not know that. I thought he was running the Vincent in normal streamliner config.  Guess we will only have one bike capable of 300+ this year then.

After watching Max's rebuild the last several months, and seeing the effort it takes to not only run a streamliner like that, but hold it all together is a monumental task.  I feel good about that new ek630 chain, it is a brute  - Now - GO Max GO !
And thanks Stainless for posting the photos and narratives of that rebuild at Thunderdome

Packed up and ready to head west for the BUB meet

I am not sure of anything except I  am getting older every day but that is what I was told by a pretty reliable source.

That reliable source is they are already pre-entered according to the Bubs website.  Like I said on another post I like to see things in writing!! :-D

Top 1 Oil Ack Attack, Sam Wheeler and Denis Manning are NOT running at the event.

Not sure of any other super fast two wheeled liners running. Wait there are not any as of this time that are proven.

Max I believe is running sidecar... I dropped Stainless off at the airport yes in Denver so he could fly back to Kansas to help Max load and drive out to Denver, then switch tow vehicles to the Dually and then tow out to the salt.

True about Denis and Sam, I heard Ack was in for the Cook meet, sure would like to see the Ack Attack at the BUB meet though.

Bub may not have the length needed for a record attempt, would be great however Mike is very smart and knows what it will take to recapture the MC Ulimate record..

Stainless showed up on the doorstep yesterday.  After talking about how his little car and bike did at Speedweek, we started taking care of loose ends.  Finished loading and tying down all the stuff needed to set up the pit, and checking everything else you can think of, down to the white shoe polish needed to change the streamliner's number from 785 to 2785.  In case you're wondering, I alternate riders. 785 is Don Angel, 2785 is Hartmut Weidelich.  Stainless and I made a run to the bearing shop, picked up a spare set of bearings for the aluminum wheel for the side car, then to the auto parts store.  Picked up a lug wrench and some more consumables for the pit.

Had some T-shirts made this year, as well as some contributor plaques.  Gave Stainless a couple, and a K Club plaque.  If anybody on the Black Lightning team deserves a big slap on the back, it's Stainless.

This year we'll have T-shirts, plaques, and videos of last years Bub for sale.  Drop by and say hi.

As it stands, there will only be one streamliner at the Bub for sure that has the potential for 300+mph runs, and that is the Vincent.  Sam and Denis won't be running, and Ack will only run if the salt is good and Denis provides a long enough course to get the job done.  Ack told me he needs 12 miles of course.  He's done some aerodynamic testing on his streamliner, as well as increasing the horsepower by a couple of hundred.  I think he put bigger turbo chargers on it.  Sam told me the E-Z Hook has been changed from the rear cockpit bulkhead to the tail.  Engine horsepower has been increased by 150, extensive transmission changes, frame reinforcement, a new rear tire that he feels will do the job.  He got the aluminum front wheel working, and he's very happy with it.  More than likely it'll be next year before the bike is ready to run.

The Vincent streamliner, Black Lightning, while on the dyno this year proved to be sound, making horsepower and torque enough to exceed 300 mph pulling a side car.  The aerodynamics of the liner itself is as good as any.  If nothing breaks, it will go fast.
