Given the BMST started Saturday the 23rd, anybody have updates on speed runs made -- or other info from the actual event?
-
Now we know how much we miss Ray the Rat.
He was everywhere and commented frequently as he posted the fotos.
RIP, Ray.
FREUD
-
Glenn - you are correct, we really miss Ray.
Joe
-
There were no runs made yesterday, it was tech inspection day.
-
Did theyn run any today?
-
yes they ran all day...
maybe following Ohio State's lead.....
-
Wow, even Facebook fails us...
-
I know Jim Fischer went 179 and 181 to set a new record in APS/PF 1650
-
Currently under a wind hold
-
Eric Patterson just set a new MPS/CG 1000 record @ 124.86
-
Thanks for the updates Jessechop. Is there any information about the salt condition, such as slushy or loose, hard and smooth, etc? Thanks, Dean
-
Copied from my "source" (Facebook shhhhhhh) :-D
Jay Allen bike #69 2000-A-PF just off the Mtn Course with a speed of 161.719mph - course status: "like a freeway- hardly noticed the wind- hard, firm and fast"
-
We have been on wind hold for about the last two hours. The course is not exactly dry but Is good enough to go fast.
The main problems are the lake at the boat ramp and pot holes everywhere it is not dragged.
Just hoping we can get more runs in today.
-
Don,.
Nothing like a person at the event giving some updates....Otherwise we have to dig deep for updates... Thanks
By the way I read up to date information on Facebook that Andy Sills went 215 on the nitrous bike.

Did any of the streamliners show up, particularly interested in the big 4?
MAX :?
-
Mike Akatiff is not going. I spoke with him on the phone today.
Have not heard anything about Denis.
Heard a rumor that Sam Wheeler MAY show up.
-
The only streamlines that are here are Eva and her electric streamliner sidecar all the rest bugged out.
It is 3 PM and we are still on Wind hold. No runs since 10 AM.
-
I wish you a whole lot better, Don.
FREUD
-
I just looked at the weather station....pretty windy from the north all day!
-
No one made any runs today from about 10am to 6pm when they let a few heavy bikes out that were not affected by the wind, Only a few made it all the way, and there were turn offs due to wind.
Tomorrow is another day!
Don
-
any news from out on the salt. Looks like there is a bit of a crosswind from the east, but not as windy as yesterday.
Fill us in on what is going on if you have heard anything.
-
Some water blew into the pits last night. Courses are still in great shape. They are making runs as I type

Curious about where they've set up the pits - I understand the normal positioning during Speedweek was unusable.

I am not sure. I am just going by what BMST posts on Facebook. Give me a minute to see about a map I saw the other day

Current wind at the airport is calm. There were thunderstorms in the area last night with .01" reported. Only way to tell about track is feet wet look see. Winds associated with the storms could have been a problem even if there was no additional rain.
-
The course hold this am was for water on the tracks. Racing has been called for the day. Planning to race till 4pm tomorrow since it's the last day.
-
Was the water there because of the wind or because of more rain -- or does anyone really know?

Thanks for the update I have been wondering what was going on, Thank's again.

I am back from the hospital at Salt Lake. Yesterday I was the first run of the day and I went down in the middle of the timing lights. I was doing between 190 and 210 and the engine seized because of a thrown rod. The rear wheel locked and the bike fishtailed like crazy. It all happened in less than a second. There was no reaction time to do anything. I slid and tumbled for 200 yards according to the witnesses.
My protective gear did its job and I still have a head and brain, The bad parts are that I have a broken shoulder, broken finger, burns everywhere and a long laceration of my right arm and hand. Everything is sore.
But I want to thank the emergency people who where there seconds after I slid to stop. They were very professional and careful and I was on the way to the hospital within minutes.
The BMST organization is great and even though I have a long recovery, I intend to be back.
Thanks again Delvene, Linnea, Rex, and all the volunteers.

Don, get well soon, glad to hear you are out of the hospital and will run again.
-
Whoa - Don!
That's really fast for your mount to throw a shoe - very glad to hear you're still on this side of the sod.
Shoulders and digits will mend - And it's good to know the protective gear worked.
My sister is a nurse who deals with burn patients - the temptation will be to skip protocols and tough it out, but don't deviate from the program. It's come a long way over the years.
Wishing you a quick and complete recovery.
We'll see you on the salt, okay?
Chris Conrad
-
whoah...pm and prayers headed your way...
Joe
-
Don;
I'm glad to hear that you are going to be OK after some time on the mend. Getting off your bike at that speed is scary!
Regards, Neil Tucson, AZ
-
Very happy to hear you are mostly OK Don, I wish you a speedy and complete recovery. -Dean
-
Don, sorry to hear about your crash...
sounds like you broke a few pieces but will mend... take your time and take your pain meds... they may take you back to the 60's, with a little luck :-D
Get well soon....
-
Don, That is a rough get off. Whenever you have engine failure of that magnitude it is virtually impossible to pull in the clutch in time. Plus often the engine is puking oil onto the rear tire. Glad to hear you are back from the hospital.
Joe
-
Holy cow, Don!
Let me know when you'll be back and I'll help unload or whatever.
Just glad you'll be OK. I'll give you a call.
-
Sorry to hear that. Best wishes for a quick healing and a return to the salt.
-
Don,
speedy recovery wishes from the other side of the pond (Germany)
-
Don, I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune and very happy to hear that there are no permanent disabilities associated with your dismount. I hope once the initial pain settles down your recovery is quick and complete.
Pete
-
Don,
Hope you have full and speedy recovery.
-
Wow, Don -- I'm sorry to hear that you crashed. Please know that Nancy and I are sending our best wishes and thoughts -- and hope you recover quickly. Are you going to publish an address so we can send you a silly card telling you to get well? :-D
-
Don,
Hope you have full and speedy recovery.
same here
-
That must have been quite a ride, glad to know that it didn't put out your fire! Wishing you a speedy, healthy recovery.
-
AND ME!!
-
Just a minor slow down in Don's quest.
Best to U.
FREUD
-
Thanks for the nice wishes everyone. I appreciate your thoughts!
On the way to California now for daughters wedding .
I hear on the radio that they have gotten lots of runs in today. Weather is great. Calm and 75 .
-
Seeing that they are running are there any updates?
-
Tough deal Don.
Heal up and best wishes. Mike.
-
I realize it would seem rather strange, for most to look on the SCTA facebook site for updates regarding
the BMST event. But Heather Black is doing an awesome job on keeping our Land Speed Racing friends
and competitors up to date on what's happening at BMST.
Check it out yourself and give credit when credit is due.
https://www.facebook.com/SCTASouthernCaliforniaTimingAssociation?fref=ts
If you should not have a facebook account and don't care to open one, just go on the SCTA-BNI website
and click on the facebook link. Gets you right there, without all the log in BS.
Mike
-
Today...Andy Sills two 221 passes, Hiro Koiso one 221 pass, Eva 241 with electric sidecar steamliner
-
It's not a SCTA event, as In the past it's always hard to get results from the Bub and now BMST.
-
WOW!! ---heal well and fast Don
-
It is kind of strange coming here to find updates. The SCTA fb page is doing a great job. A good thing otherwise we'd be clueless as to what's happening.

Isn't BUB FIM and not SCTA?
-
yes we live in the age of "instant gratification",,, remember "patience",, i recall having to wait three months for the next issue of EasyRider magazine to see how Dave Campos and crew done,,,
-

[/quote]
Its AMA and FIM.
Stay'tee. Its sad isn't it. We want the time slip before they run.
-
Eva ran 241/239. :)
-
Its still FIM AND AMA but no longer referred to as BUB ( BIG UGLY BASTERED ) it is now run by Delvene and the event is now called BONNEVILLE MOTORCYCLE SPEED TRIALS. Or BEVILL RACING. Joe Terrise SP? owned the Easy Rider magazine and got the liner from BOB GEORGE the builder of the bike under a strange circumstance. Joe ask for donations in his rag and it has been said HE received 250,000 and put the names of the contributors on the liner, as I understand it JOE let the contributors know immediately when the 322 record was set, of course it was stated pending ratification. Dave Campos in the year of 2002 was the back up rider for Don Vesco who was the primary rider of my streamliner. Vesco that year showed up late at SPEED WEEK , if I remember it had something to do with the drive shafts on the TURBINATER. So Dave was the MAN that year. The whole story of the EASY RIDER STREAMLINER cant be told here.
MAX

I guess maybe youse who use Facebook haven't even noticed. A few days ago I started up a landracing.com Facebook page. First of all - notice that there's a "landracing" page -- that ain't ours. Ours is landracing.com. Big difference.
Anyway, I'm trying to get a little better at using and posting on it. I've managed to harvest a few photos and such -- and will be able to do more once I'm out there in person. You're all welcome to use it, too.
Take a look at the landracing.com FB page and tell me what you think. Thanks, hey?

Hey Slim- I see you put the link in the SCTA FB link I put up. How about changing the title to just Facebook Links or something like that. Since FB is becoming more used here, thought having the links direct rather than buried in other threads for those of us not on Fb was good idea.

Good idea, that why we only have to go to landracing.com.

I'm getting there, I'm getting there. This is all new to me, remember. And right now I'm pouring melted paraffin into the jars of raspberry jam that I made the other day.
Okay - as soon as I can I'll put up a FB-type topic. By the way -- I do have the link right on the top of the home page already. :-D

What?? You have a life beside messing with this site??? Thanks Slim for all you do.
-
Yep - I do have things to keep me occupied. On to the FB page:
Please consider using it for whatever you want, but remember that it is an adjunct to the Forum and the rest of landracing.com. that is -- FB is fine for a quick photo or a comment -- the Forum is for things where lots of photos (build diaries, etc) should be. Long discussions - like aero stuff or comparing your way of welding the cage to the other guy's way -- Forum. Whoo-hoo, somebody just ran a 348.421 on a pushrod 100cc bike? Facebook.
I'll do what I can to keep both of them pertinent and up to date. You do that too, please.
-
I suppose the live streaming was for Speed Week only?.

It is there now. The electrons were a bit slower getting on the main page than these posts.

I have been on the Home page, actually about 5 times and it's still is not there on www.landracing.com,
Are we talking about the same site? I did fine Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials, What I am saying that there should be a direct link to FaceBook on the home page if one going to use FB, my opinion is that we have been using landracing.com for over 10 years for updates why change anyway if one can get on FB they can surely get on landracing.com But I can see there might be reason for more than one why to communicate.

Well, dang. Even from my phone now when i click on that link i see dead center just below the count down clocks, the "Landracing embraces
Faacebook" announcement with the link. Don't know what's up with yours. Sorry can't help further.

@stwheeler -- did not know if you had heard from Sam, but did the streamliner get any test runs on the course at BMST? (I know Sam has mentioned before he typically needs near perfect weather / course conditions to run it)
-
Spent 9 hrs. cleaning the truck, trailer, bike, & pit paraphernalia yesterday, still need to empty & clean the tool box after break down in impound. :-D
My neighbors pressure washer got a good workout doing the undercarriage. :?
Our first time on the salt with a fairing this year was a good learning experience, specially when the gas cap came off the tank at 155 mph. :-o
We did keep bumping our speeds up & ended the event with a down run of 185.572 & a return run of 189.336 - giving the Gray Ghost II a record two way average of 187.454 in the APS-PF 1650 class.
So the 2014 Slush Fest had less then desirable conditions, but was still fun seeing all our salty friends again. Time to start thinking about next year
-
Jimbo........It was good to meet you and congrats on your success. I had only poor and bad luck............only 3 runs on a new bike that still needs to be sorted. Two years of good experiences did not teach me to prepare for so much interruption and loss of time. I thought I would use the 'test' track as in the past to get a few plug-chops and set the carbs...............then the wet salt got into my ignition :-( I left for home on Wednesday .......determined to get things ready for next year.
Basic info............the short course was 5 miles and had good traction. The long course was only 6 miles and had iffy traction and several soft spots on the right half. We lost a lot of time waiting in line for gas :? Most of a day was lost to high winds and all of Wednesday was lost to wet conditions.
Crossing Lake Bonneville was a new access feature............but if it does not rain it should all be dry for WOS. The wind moves the water a bit so the pits flooded ..................rolling-pits were best. It rained during our trip back to Wisconsin.........so most of the salt disappeared from the van and trailer.

I haven't heard from him, but I don't think that the weather or salt was to his liking. I sent him and email but don't know if he saw it yet,
Thanks for asking.

I just got word that no, he did not run due to the bad salt conditions,
-
Was there ever posted daily runs / speeds by entrants for this event? Nothing on their website posted that I can find.
-
Well - - - all said & done with the meet for me in particular this year - We can deal with Mother Nature - - - :-D Be prepared to get your job done day one. :-)
But, Don't know about most of yaz, I missed Denis walkin around, with the inevitable comment on whatever, usually with a punch line that left you with a smile or down right laugh.
We'll be lookin for you next year Denis -
-
The hard meets like this with adverse conditions are not conducive to fast speeds for a lot of us. They are the best for learning stuff. The lessons from this meet put me in a much better position to go fast at the next one.
-
I have been looking around for photos from the event but cant seem to find anything! Anyone know of some collections of pics that have been posted?
