Days leading up to event?

My vacation is the last two weeks of August and I have to be back to work on the 1st of September. I can catch the first couple days of the event but would it be worth it to arrive a couple days early? What's going on between the events in August this year?

Thanks, I saw the schedule. I was just wondering if there was anything worthwhile to see before the official start. I'm sure there are people arriving early? Maybe some fun people hanging out at the bend in the road?

 There's some very interesting US military history at the Wendover Army Airfield.  Figure on a couple of hours, maybe a morning or an afternoon.  You can climb the control tower, FYI.
