I thought the idea was "To Go Under the Air" rather than thru it.  Made sense to me.

Technical Discussion / Re: Selecting a synchronous belt
« Last post by Beltguy on Today at 01:00:44 PM »
Jack, I only had time to briefly look at the Mitsuboshi 1440 H8M belt, but it appears to be a pretty standard HTD (round tooth) profile and not all that special of materials.  I will do some more research in the next day or two.  Trying to get a bunch of stuff done before back surgery in a three weeks.

That part of the timing belt industry is pretty complicated.  There are several 8mm and 14mm tooth profiles by various manufacturers some of which will interchange and some will not.  For our purposes, we can break it down into the HTD (round tooth that has the shape of a "U" and a couple of "gear tooth" looking profiles.  I am pretty sure you have the "U" shaped tooth.  That tooth profile was common in drag racing while the gear shaped profiles were limited (several years ago) to the Gates PolyChain belt.  I suspect I will end up compiling some drawings and downloads into a document I will post here.

BTW, I am starting to read you old inline four thread.  Looks like fun reading.

Jim

Here's a shot of 5050 during the build.
Jack lived (worked) a couple miles from my place. He taught me to fiberglass and to not let the wind see ya.

Some of these pages on this site no longer appears to be active:

But the site has been archived and you can click back and forward through the pages and view some different capture dates.

It looks like some pages might be missing here, and perhaps not enough detail for you, but you should be able to find pictures like this one:

Aerodynamics / Re: Drag of Open Windows
« Last post by slowalex on Today at 12:41:28 AM »
There seem to be a number of studies that have reached the conclusion that open windows increase drag.

Study on the effect of window opening on the drag characteristics of a car

The results obtained from both simulation and experimental data showed that the car with all windows open produced higher drag than a car with all windows closed.

The Aerodynamics of Open Windows

The focus of this study was on circuit racing, but the conclusion is that there is a measurable increase in drag and lap times, with open windows on a moderately fast circuit. He mentions Lime Rock as one example, and also lists some mitigation strategies, including window nets with more fabric than holes, if you must keep the windows open.

Bonneville General Chat / costella nebulous theorem IV

Looking for info and/or photos of the Nebulous Theorem IV. Already been on the net and Jacks site, not a whole lot out there. So hoping there is something here. Any shots of it without the body, dimensions (length?) etc. Saw a photo of it at a GoodGuys show with two of his other cars but couldn't find out where or when. Where is it now? Thanks.

The time between 2 light beams, I think 132' apart, ending at 1.3 mile mark. Like a dragstrip.

Yeah, but how is distance measured from start, is it surveyed like at Bville?
