Hey J.D. or Dan -- what's a blue timing tag mean (other than it's not a red)?
-
The top speed for that vehicle that was a non record..
-
I thought we used blue for Muroc but, I'll defer to JD.

DW
I don't think so as I am sure I have a Blue timing tag or two and I have never been to Muroc..?

I guess we'll have to ask JD at the lakebed because he has bailed on this deal.
DW

I thought it might be for a "Performance Award" -- when you set top time (but not a record) in a class with 3 or more competitors(?).
-
The Muroc Record Tag is Orange.
-
I don't have any blue tags.
The designation should be printed on the tag because the color is not universally understood.
RECORD
CLASS WINNER
TOP SPEED
TOP SPEED OF THE MEET
LARGEST ROADSTER
SMALLEST ROADSTER
SAND BAGGIEST
BEST USE OF MONEY
MOST USE OF MONEY
THE BROWN SHORTS AWARD
Well you get the picture.

I made another mistake...I posted a correction will on the on the wrong subject. The orange Murov tag is a performance tag, not a record tag.
-
I think all record tags are red. Jim, look at your blue tag - maybe World Finals?
DW
-
Who's Jim?

I got a timing tag with a wrong speed, What do I do about it?

if it's under a 100 moph it must be Bobs...
-
I got a WF tag; it's red.
-
The "Old Man" that set up the blue timing tags says they're Bonneville tags. Black are El Mirage tags. The red tags, denote a record at Bonneville or El Mirage.

Not gone or forgotten.
Memories are too short. 8)
The blue tad was issued by USFRA.
I set a record with them and never got one.
-
I have an orange tag from a record at Muroc. I have a blue USFRA tag. I have 16 black tags laying here on the computer and one orange one that says Muroc attempt. No other blue ones but I can look in the glove box and tool box.
-
Rich, the "Old Man" says you should have some. No idea what they do with them now but. from the time they were first issued (mid to late seventy's) until the last time he was a board member (1992), that's what they were used for.

They look black to me. Maybe really dark blue. Say Hi to your dad for me. RF

I'm looking at six tags that I had here at my desk, all six of which say "Bonneville", some from '03, the rest from '04.
Four red ones, all with SpeedWeek dates (various years), all with speeds that were records.
Two blue ones, one SW, one WF, both with my top speed of the meet - NOT records.
There's my two cents worth. Gotta go shovel -- we got ten or twelve inches of nice, wet snow last night. Winter's coming pretty soon. . .
-
My Black Tags say El Mirage on them. My Blue Tags say Bonneville. My Orange Tag says Muroc. I don't have any Red Tags (yet!).
Is this a RTFT thread?

OK if I hold them at the correct angle to the light I can tell that the Bonneville tags are dark blue. Straight on they still look black to me. But right is right and I'm wrong. They are blue. RF

After going through some of Bruce Geisler's, all the Bonneville tags he has are black, as are the El Mirage tags. These are all pre 1971. Also a question- when did the tags start being engraved. The early ones are hand stamped.
