A few posts back I read that the runway is still "active" -- that is, planes could use it if the need arose. I know when the local B52 base up here (K. I. Sawyer -- ask Stainless and John Boy about it) closed we asked about using the runway for LSR -- and were told that it was still active even if no one used it. If there's a big yellow "X" at each end -- that's to tell pilots they are not to use the runway. Does the Loring landing strip have the Xs? If so -0- it'd seem that the lights didn't have a function any more and could be considered ready to remove (even though I betcha it'd cost BIG BUCKS!). But if no yellow X - then it's still a runway first and an LSR strip second.
Anyone got better information than I have? Let s know.
