As I remember hearing, Jim Knapp wanted water for cooling his fuel pump - and the water tank's pump in the trailer had stopped pumping.  I'll go ask for a clarification, okay?  Are we sorta bored - or what?

Junior just confirmed this...although as I understand it, there may have been more contamination in the fuel tank as well.

Bored?  Nawww...we're just out here telling war stories and discussing ways to eliminate flies.

I cured vapor lock on a '33 Ford with a 1/2 grapefruit on the fuel pump.
Drove across Arizona, New Mexico, and 1/3 of Texas in 1955.
Guess he has a different set-up.

He's through the three, the four, entering the timed stretch.

Entry speed    292.7   kilo   297.4   mile   297.3   exit speed 301.5

He'll turn it around and make another run in about a half-hour.

Jon, Nancy, Ray, Larry, Zane, PorkPie and any other shooter/reporter there I have forgotten . . .

Thanks to you folks, I'll have a concise and credible section on the 2012 Shootout for my new book: "Bonneville: A Century of Speed" to be published by the University of Utah Press in 2014 .
I am grateful to you --  all of you -- for not only reporting, but understanding the sport so well that you can offer sparkling insights and amusing anecdotes. Love them fly stories, and yes, they were abominable this year! An injured husband kept me away, family is always first with me, so this year's help was particularly essential.

To Racers All : I salute your efforts, records or not, to arrive and try. . ., this is the drama we all crave.

To Mike Cook and Land Speed Enterprises Top Speed Shootout staff: Well done, kept everyone safe and gave the racers a fast circuit upon which to play without worry.

To FIA Dave Petrali,  FIM Charlie Hennekem and AMA Drew Gatewood: The sanctity and honor of a World Land Speed Record endures because you do not waver, stay vigilant and show-up. Your professional comportment is to be congratulated and admired.

LandSpeed Louise

Well, it's just about over for the year.  Jim Knapp is ready to run, and it has been announced -- buy no less than Mike Cook hisself - that this will be the last run of the "Mike Cook's Top Speed Shootoput of 2012"

Knapp has thirty minutes left in his one-hour window.  Track is clear and secure.  He's getting in the car.

Engine is running.  Closing the canopy.

Short delay -- they needed to change the batteries in the GPS.  I'm surprised the Jim needs one of 'em - the course is pretty easy to follow, and the miles are all marked out for him.

Whatever, the Barnyard Bearcat is rolling from the mountain end toward the pits.

Through the nine mile, through the eight.

At the seven, now entering the timed stretch.

Entry 295.5   kilo  299.7    mile   299.6   exit  303.42

Dang!  Jim really wanted a blue hat run.

Through the four and chute is out.

That's all there is - there ain't no more for this year.

Slowing, stopped at the 2 3/4.
