Went for a ride in a 28 Ford
« on: April 29, 2022, 10:39:59 PM »
After lunch today I went for a ride in a 28 Ford... pretty cool...

It was a 12 passenger...

Rpm, head temp and oil pressure were remotely located, although some of the redundant gauges were in the drivers compartment.  He actually had to look outside to make sure the motors were running the same speed.

Lots of corrugated sheet metal on the body... but it had fly by wire technology

Oh man, a Ford Tri-Motor.

That is an aircraft I would love to ride in.

They delivered mail to our little town with one of those before my time.

My stepdad told me about it landing in his pasture instead of the airstrip in town for some reason.

He ended up getting a ride in it, said it vibrated like crazy.

    Don

Color me green with envy... Personally, I'd love a ride in a Beech Staggerwing.

in the 90's my plane had some issues after a tough landing...and couldn't be used for the final destinations......some of the passenger, like me, the next destination was just a three hour flight with the Ford Tri-Motor.....
so the airport manager got the idea to go with that plane as they need some time to get a replacement for the damaged jet....

what a fun....they called us to a far out gate....when I came there, an airport employee gave me a pack of ear plugs....oops.... before I went out of the building to be on the runway....where this Ford Tri-Motor stand....it was a wonderful surprise for me....well...the most other passenger didn't share my opinion....

it was one of the greates flight I ever had....so low and slow the plane flew it was fantastic as you could look down and follow the animals in the Canadian wilderness...

having a so joy ride with that old plane....and that for free.....wow

AirCap, they are giving rides today... cheap actually... $85 flying from Jabara on the north end.  With the headwind heading toward downtown it took 15 minutes to fly to downtown... yea you can drive it in 10.  It was a loud, shaky and wonderful experience.  The pilot said he was done for the day when we landed due to high winds.  Was only blowing 40 when we took off, straight down the runway... left the ground in about 100 yards... flew at about 2k AGL.  Scheduled to go to downtown and West to airport and back... only made it to downtown... Oh... only had 1 guy puking... glad I wasn't sitting close to him  :-P  :?

Best use of $85 ever  My first plane ride was G.R. to Green Bay in a  DC 3.
I`d never advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...But they work for me.
