Title: Doug Nash 5 speed
Post by: sdroadster on April 24, 2022, 02:45:59 PM
I have just purchased a Doug Nash 5 speed transmission. This trans is a dog ring, straight cut gear, no over drive unit. The previous owner said 1st gear is 2.67, and 2nd is 1.65. I know that is a really big jump in ratio. I'm going to call Richmond, as I have found that there may be a 2.20 1st available. Does anybody know of a good company to service this transmission, and possibly replace 1st gear?  And, if I can't fix the ratio, do I rev in 1st, and then lug off in second hoping to recover the lost RPM?  I run a lot at El Mirage, so recovery time is a concern. Thanks Terry, Studebaker #352

Go to Liberty Gears in Harrison Township Michigan....great people...will make a ratio if one is not on the shelf...I have been dealing with them for the last 15 years and wouldn't go any where else....my 2 cents....Paul...

Thanks. I called Liberty, they appear to have any part necessary, and provide a rebuild service.

Does face plated mean a "dog box"?  If so it's not. You can see the synchros.
