Joe Turner
« on: December 18, 2020, 04:14:42 PM »
Joe "Goofy" Turner of San Bernardino passed away earlier this week.  Joe and Jim Amrhein successfully ran the Strait-Away Engineering Roadster in a variety of usually fuel classes at Bonneville and El Mirage with Chrysler Slant-6 and Chevy Small Block motors.  They later ran a Blown Fuel Altered roadster in Drag Racing.  Joe crewed for Big Jim Dunn's Funny Car for years.

You betcha!  I think the 45-year-old record got broken this year and there was some hoopla about putting 40 or so MPH on the existing record.  That's less than 1 MPH per year.  Big deal.
