Big time NASCAR racer should have pulled the belts down a little more or else keep the old man out of the car.

I especially think the whimpering like a toddler was impressive.

Over the years there has been a number of prominent international drivers that have gone down to run at Bathurst & once they drove it changed their minds. A camera does not do that track justice, you have to drive it to see just how severe it really is & then there's the kangaroo's, the falling trees during the common bad weather & the 30 other drivers wanting to be right where you are.
I can imagine being a passenger would be an ordeal.

We had a driver for a top alcohol dragster that was such a bad passenger he wouldent even let anyone else drive the truck towing the trailer.

According to legend ,  Alan Moffatt( who came originally from Canadia ) who won Bathurst four times was driven up to the top of the mountain to "see the race-track" when he first came to Australia. They stopped , he got out and took in the view ..." so, where's the race track?"...

"you're standing on it".

Part of the fear for DW might of had to do with sitting on the left side reaching for the wheel and pounding the brakes when none are there.

I had occasion to ride shotgun in a right hand drive Bently in downtown LA traffic. It was freaky sitting there with no wheel or pedals.

Bathurst is the best track in the country.
I raced sidecars at Bathurst since 1975.
It's realy heart in mouth to go off skyline into the dipper at close to 100mph without being able to see the track.
No bikes there since 2000- they say it's too dangerous

Interesting. Not sure I'd label it any more "extreme" than the old Nuerburgring. But it was way back in '67 when I drove a couple of "civilian" laps of the Ring.

Yep, It`s a goodie....Still think the best Bathurst in-car is the first one though. Dick Johnson casually talking to Chris Economaki in `83, I think......It`s on YouTube somewhere.....and I still get in on the wrong side occasionally, mostly it`s getting in on the left in a visit back home....
