2009 Speedweek Rooms Available
« on: October 01, 2008, 08:56:15 PM »
2009 Speed Week is scheduled for Monday, August 10 through Sunday, August 16, with inspection on Sunday, August 9.

The Wendover Nugget Hotel & Casino is accepting hotel reservations for 2009 Speed Week (I was able to reserve ours this morning).  Their number is 800-848-7300. :-D

This is a little earlier than last year which was mid Oct.  Don't wait till the end of the year and complain about rooms.

Maybe SSS can make this a sticky so every one can see it.

It's 615pm here in Washington. I just called them. They said they are taking reservations and I asked for a room. I was immediately told the only thing left were mini jacuzzi suites, one bed. I asked how much. 180 plus for Sunday through the rest of the week for a total of $800.00 plus, comes out to over a thousand, one room, one bed. Same old deal folks, bring your tents, trailers, motorhomes and put the savings into your hot rods, I will. I usually need a minimum of two rooms, preferably three.

Boy, that was quick. If my roadster isn't ready by speed week, I will only need one room and I will have two rooms available. I have been trying for the last three years to get the roadster ready, so chances are good it might not be their next year.  If anybody is interested PM and I will keep a list and call when the time comes and work down the list.

On another note the Super 8 ( I think they changed their name) in Wendover this year was $85 a night during speed week, and the rooms were good. I had some rooms their this year and gave them up to the Barbee boys.

The old Super 8 in West Wendover is now America's Best Value Inn.  Their information comes right up under that designation.  It's very popular with truckers and weekends and Mondays seem to fill up even now so keep that in mind when you call.  It's located immediately to the West of The Red Garter, same entrance off the street so it's easy to get confused.  The West Wendover Visitors Center put me on to the place.

About the "America's Best Value Inn"  -- I hear their rates are along the line of those charged by Motel 6.  Check it out -- low-cost lodging price wars?

Got mine confirmed at motel 6 for next year... Comfortable rate of $69 a night, seems like Motel 6 has never let me down. For what I spend on LSR racing I think even $100-$150 a night is payment enough for my wife to put up with me a year, seems like a steal.. I dont want to be the one to tell her she has to camp...

Teel them you promise to take your mother nitrous bottle right into the room - and that you're thinking of washing parts in the sink.  Those are some of the Team Amo tricks that have earned them special pricing.

Cheers Glen,This may sound like a silly question but is that course Inspection or vehicle inspection or does scruitneering continue through the week as and when entrants turn up.
Its all new to me so I gotta ask.

Tech inspection is the first day -- but is available all week long, too.  You can have your vehicle done on the 9th -- lines are pretty long, but it's the only way if you're ready to run and itching to get on the Salt.  This year, however, Nancy and I weren't planning on running 'til later on in the week, so we didn't get our bike inspected until Tuesday or so.  No waiting - instant service.

You might have a more difficult time finding enough inspectors later on, of course.  Our bike was new to the Salt so required two inspectors - would've needed three if the speed of the record in that class was even higher.  I don't inspect my own bike - so had to find two others to do the deed.  Cars have it a bit easier, I think, as teardowns for certifying records are done in the inspection area - so that's staffed through the entire week.  You shouldn't have too much hassle getting your inspection either way.

Course inspection is a ride down it immediately following the driver/rider meeting on the morning of the 10th.  The only other time you're allowed to drive the course is when you're on a run - and usually you're a tad busy then to notice much of the scenery...
