1050mph wheel driven car proposal. What do you think?
« on: January 10, 2011, 06:10:42 PM »
Hello,
My name is Wattie.
I post here cause I’d like to know how people like you (and me) that live for speed think about my proposal for an hyperfast  wheel driven lsr car. Personally I think that the real lsr must be wheel driven cause if you want to be a “ground vehicle” you mast put your power on the ground. Thrust cars don’t put their power on land…their wheels don’t transfer power to the ground. But at the same time I’m fashinated to the top speed that a human had reached running on the ground.
So How a wheel driven vehicle could take the absolute record (that sins 1964 is by a thrust car?)
Here is my fantscentific proposal.
From simple calculations if with 2000hp (50% throttle) turbinator reached 470mph to top 1050mph (faster than bloodhound,) he need 23000hp.
Burkland went 450mph with 2400hp (60% throttle)…31000hp for 1050.
Goldenrod 425mph with 2400 hp 36000 hp for  1050mph… and similar considerations with others 400+ mph liners.
Those are only very approximate considerations. But let’s go on.
We know that the power to weight ratio is the key for reaching very high speed. Adding weight to have more traction could be translate in no enough road to reach top speed ( like Herbert steen liner).
So what is the only place on hearth long enough to permit this kind of long accelerations?
Rails.
I think that WE have the power an the tecnlogy to build a streamliner like this:
For example a liner like an enlarged “goldenrod” or “411” or “woomera1” large as rails. Put in it 6 or more top fuel 8000hp engines for at least 48000hp, maybe in the same way of Mikey Thompson Challenger .
4, or even 6 wheel driven.
Put this liner in the 140km railway used for the tgv record. You have 140km to accelerate this liner. And maybe more than 50000hp (10engines…80000hp) to put on the ground. Iron wheels.
Yes, must build an incredible transmission, electronic to cut the power at low accelerations, engines able to resist for the whole run and all devices about supersonic speed. The only piston engine vehicle and wheel driven vehicle brake sound barrier (but 650mph would be even a great goal!).Maybe some device for safeness able to prevent the car flying using rails themself ….Maybe impossible or too much expensive effort.
But in the end you could have the fastest piston engine vehicle ever build. Most powerful  piston engine car ever build. Fastest ground vehicle. Incredible sound vehicle….fastest wheel driven vehicle. Most pride driver ever…
Yes..it is fantascientific….But one day..

This should draw some interesting comments. I don't think the top fuel engines would survive and be difficult sync. as well as make a one hour turn around for the return run.

Well, high speed rail seems to work consistently.  It's an expensive proposal, to be sure, and I haven't checked the newbie's math, but maybe he's on to . . . something . . .

As for me, I'll stick to tires for the time being.  I already bought those.

One of the earliest races through the Salt Flats (not on them) was between a train and a car . . . Ab Jenkins beat the train in a race from SLC to Wendover on the Lincoln Highway in 1926.  The smart money at the time was on the train.

You could raise the $$$$$ by selling seats on it. After all, anyone on it would just be a passenger anyways.   :-D

Which would pretty much make it ineligible for any FIA records.

The fuel tanker you will be pulling to feed those Nitro motors will defiantly slow you down. LOL.

I agree with the wheel driven part ... the jet/rocket stuff is just low flying planes ... taxi-ing aircraft could hold the land speed record ...
