anyone know yet if the World Finals 2020 is going to happen?

If anybody knows it'd be Pat McDowell and Bill Lattin from SCTA-BNI, and they haven't told me.  The event is scheduled and the salt is reserved, but as far as I know there's no decision.  Check with the SCTA website or FB page for best info.

Normally if the salt/weather predictions are good it depends on the amount of entries. If I remember correctly, and I worked and ran at them, with enough entries it would barely break even and many times was a loss.
Within a short time we members will know how Speed Week did financially. It?s a wait and see.
I enjoyed them a lot but you had better be ready right out of your trailer as it?s might short meet.

The weather's always beautiful (or terrible).  Sometimes the meet doesn't last long enuf to get off the trailer.

I remember a few yrs back my son and I were there with 2 other race cars. We had ours out, Jim Loving had his out. Charlie Reno?s modified roadster was not taken out because cause it was a pain to put in. The clouds looked very dark from the west. Patrick and I put ours back in. Helped Jim put his back in. We all headed to the starting line. Didn?t stay, rain was coming down in buckets. It snowed that night as we drove thru it over the mountains..... You can never tell... but in October of 2012 I set the XO/GR record at 169... would have never happened at Speed Week.

Years back, the SCTA held the Drivers Meeting at the pit entrance, by the trailers.  It was blowing pretty hard and cool.  They said they'd start the meet when the wind died down, which happened shortly.  Then it started to pour rain.  We're all standing there and that yellow Mitsubushi all-wheel drive PS car came by at close to 200.  I thought, this is a fine how-do-you-do ? send a 4-wheel drive car in the rain and then justify calling the meet.  No, that didn't happen.  They sent 2 roadsters from the line.  Neither made it to the mile as I remember.  Darned near drowned the drivers.  Then they called the meet.  "Good seeing all you guys.  See you again in August."

I'm glad i was there when the 911 Roadster went 304mph. Super cool to see that. Haven't been to a world final since. I was planning on  taking my car this year but.................I'm a little skeptical as to whether it's worth it the way things have gone this year. I'm just not sure. :dhorse:

That was at World Finals in 2010.  I was working in timing then and everybody went bonkers when those numbers came up!

Its still on the schedule, if they have the World Finals, will spectators be allowed? I want to plan my first trip to Bonneville!

Spectators are always allowed Usually following The same procedures as Speedweek. The fees help the meet break even.

Please tell me more about the world finals event.
Is it mostly the fast guys racing?
Are there many bikes?

I noticed that the rooms are considerably cheaper than SW, and I assume a much smaller crowd.
Both are good things for me.

I was planning on attending speedweek, but the in-laws unexpectedly showed up and I was forced to
cancel.

The words crowd and World Finals don?t go together. Lucky to have 100 vehicles. Any competitors are welcome. When it started it was mostly faster cars looking for cooler weather and shorter lines.
I was able to set my naturally aspirated gas at one of the October meets.

Something that's not unusual to see at World Finals is rain - sometimes lots of it!  I just glanced through the 2020 rule book, and it appears that the last time any records were set at World Finals was back in 2012.   It seems to get rained out - or cancelled in advance - pretty frequently.
