Title: Texas Mile Rookie suggestions
Post by: V8Pinto on December 13, 2007, 12:20:25 PM
Hello,

I'm trying to put together my first trip to the Texas Mile next year.

If we can make it, I'll run two Busas (an 06' and an 08', both stock).  Both bikes have run in SCTA competition and my gear passes that muster.

Any tech or gear type of differences between SCTA comp and Texas Mile?  What changes will I need to make to the bikes to be legal in Texas?

I have family near San Antonio and will likely use that as a home base.  Or should I stay somewhere closer?

Thx for the advice.

San Antonio seems like a heck of a drive, especially depending on where in SA they are.

If it's in April, a friend and I will definitely make it, if it's in March we are a strong maybe.

I would stay closer, if your bike is in good working order and you have a kill switch, you'll pass.

I live just north of San Antonio and it took us about 2&1/2 hours to get to the track at Goliad last year.I would stay in Beeville or Goliad.

Beeville or Goliad as the others have stated are the best places to stay. 20-30 minutes from the track and all of the conveniences you might need.

Is it like at El Mirage where everybody camps?  Or does the track close up (everybody motel's it?).

I was told you can can only stay at the track if you have an RV. Tents and such aren't allowed is the way it was explained to me.

I may be in either Padre island or somewhere near the border just before the October race at Texas, just hanging out, being retired and all  8-)

So i was wondering what is the earliest date that you can enter the pit area with a motorhome and trailer to dry camp, for the October race? We usually can enter Maxton the Thursday before the race weekend, I was just wondering if there was any similar arrangements at Texas?

I'm assuming that there is always a need for volunteers to help setup and getting there Thursday afternoon gives more time for us to settle down and get a good nights sleep before helping out on Friday.

John, I don't remember a gate, they run on the inactive leg of an active county airport.  Use the Texas Mile link on the homepage and contact them.
