Title: acorn lug nuts

 hello. interested in doing a simple t/o run with a 90hp subaru at loring...

 I have rare 4x140 peugeot wheels with even more rare, extra large...acorn lug nuts.

there is no other for the wheel.

 what do I do?

 the right lug in photo is the wimp acceptable on the breakable steel 13 inch wheels.
the left goes on the 19 pound 15x 6j peugeot.
 the fit is unusual. very large, pressed washer, as part of the acorn nut
I cannot use any other with the wheel...they are too small for the wheel.
hard to find to boot. I have 16 extra.

I think the definition of "acorn" is at the root of the problem.  In my estimation, an "acorn" nut is one with a closed end, where the stud is not visible.

I'm prepared to be wrong, but that is what I have always considered an acorn lug nut.

Are the nuts you have pictured open on the end?

no, not open.
 all steel, not cast. shipped with oem, not an aftermarket item.
 I remember the acorn nut thing, from I think, speedway 95 in maine...

 peugeot was an odd one. They might be called female studs just for them, for all I know. Simply gargantuate compared to normal. hefty buggers. love the setup. (I broke the oem 13 inch wheels- these fixed it by a ton). I also specifically got some t-rated yokohama to meet that part of the rules.

 attempting to erase doubts..although local, it is still a haul for me to loring.

Are they open on the hex end? If not ,cut grind or preferably put them in a lathe and open the end up.

I won't negate the oem strength for a mile.

 it has got 25 years beyond it.. in maine no less.

 I would doubt they call those acorns. I think acorns are aftermarket and scary to racers.
 just want to verify with a guru on the rule.
 appearance as large acorn, it is not to be judged falsely.

if it was an scta event you'd either have to open them up on the end to show the stud or not run them.  always the racer's choice.

I did email my question.
if curious, the lugs are no problem.

 generalizing acorn lug nut could be more precise in the rules, as some true oem nuts look like that.
