Next contribution to our 2013 season, ran 5th again making the PASSCAR final Scoreboard at Perris Speedway. Had some gremlins in the heat race which showed up as a dead spot hitting the throttle coming off turns 2 and 4. Checked everything we could think of including both fuel filters and the filter on the vent to the tank. Only change I made was to increase the pressure to the carb to 7.5.
Went to the ignition next and found nothing we say was the problem. Cleaned a few connections, weights were free in the distributor everything looked good.
We were the first main event and the call came qwik, I was helping buckle Patrick in the car ready to put up the net when he told his son Tyler to reach in the other window and take out the 8000 rev limiter chip out of the 6AL box. He started the engine, I guided him back, up to the starting area as they were rolling, and onto the track. He starting at the back because of the poor heat race; 2 yellow flag laps, bunch up, stab it coming off turn 4 and we were under way.
The engine never missed a beat, he was hammering the h--l out of it down the front and backstretch. For him, made a lot progress on his taking of the corners (this is a seat time deal and he needs seat time) ran down some guys, caught them on the straight, made it stick low and passed them on the next straight. 1st caution came out on lap 19, got they the guy off the track, green-white-checkered and he was 5th.
I thought it was best he had ever driven, no yellows and no time to think, just go and go now. Another 10 years and he may get good at this.
Next race is at the old Orange Show Fairgrounds in San Berdo in 2 weeks. It's returned to dirt. Big show for West Coast Super/Street Stocks and he wants to run and have some fun. A lot of guys coming from central Cali for this one and we have a hard time against these guys..........JD
