....... because Plan A never works!
I'm Don, 63 years old, and it seems as if my life has been a series of plan Bs, always working out well in the end. I've teamed with Dave, 50 years old, and he felt pretty much the same about plans A&B, so we, along with my son Jason are 'Plan B Racing'.
We've been to USFRA World of Speed the last three years, this will be our fourth. Started out with my own street truck on the 130 course. Since then we've driven a borrowed '26 T coupe, a borrowed Corvette and a borrowed HAMB-style dragster. Wound up buying the dragster, making some modifications and using it for the 150 Club last year, where we experienced the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat in less than 24 hours. Fried the transmission on day two, and have yet to join the 130 or the 150 Clubs. It's not as easy as it looks!
As we pondered all this after last year's event, we reached the following conclusions;
a) We are now inexorably involved with Land Speed Racing, and,
b) The racing world was in desperate need of one more small-block powered Camaro!
What to do? ...... Let's build an '81 Camaro for /CPRO. What could be easier ....... what could possibly go wrong? Does running out of time and money count?
Our high-tech offering to the Gods of Speed and Salt will be cutting-edge data aquisition consisting of a reading of the plugs, results from the butt-dyno all carefully compared with timeslips. I doubt there will be a need for extra red hats.
Dave has raced modified on dirt for a long time and I've always drag raced. We're both burned out with the "professional" racing circuses, complete with barkers, hucksters, trained animals, cartoon characters and an unlimited supply of clowns. LSR is refreshingly pure and simple.
The deeper we get into this, the more we get it. We're understanding the procedures and protocalls and want to be able to say we GET it!
Students of everything .... experts of nothing,
'Plan B Racing'
