Merry Christmas!
I have to share one of my presents from my daughter. It's snowing, very windy and near zero outside however warm inside. My friends in the south have a similar problem 6 months out.
I find the high temp in summer too much when over 100 degrees F and think of the cold of winter. Well today the wind chill is below 0 degrees F and I was thinking of the warmer weather to come and working on the car again. My daughter wrote a poem a few day's ago and wrapped it for me to open and it was just what I needed today.
Summer
The wind is blowing
While kids fly their kites in parks,
The river water is flowing.
It's a hot summer day.
The sky is a beautiful blue
It's a lovely day to go out and play.
Kids eat yummy ice cream.
The nights are cool and damp
Summer's here as if in a dream.
She is nine and enjoys my cars. There is hope for us both.
Happy New Year to all!

Testing

24F and sunny in Skandia, Michigan, Glen. Nancy leaves for work in less than an hour -- and I go work with the new snowthrower. I'll take the camera and get some photos of the new toy.
-
:-D 68 degrees and sunny here in Arizona! (Just had to be a snot!) Crow.
-
Whaddaya mean, snot? You're the one with the nasty un-Christmas-like weather. I keep telling youse guys -- I couldn't live where there's no winter, no wintry weather, no snow. We had a "green Christmas about fifteen uyears ago -- I rode the gold Wing on Christmas Day -- and it was just wrong.
-
Glen,
Glad you are able to test! :-D Yes you are still with us. I hope to be testing here when I am in my 70s
You know what Slim says :?
Any day you can test on Land racing . com is a great day!

It's seems really quiet today even the e-mail is slow and quiet. Guess everyone got used up yesterday and need the rest. It's warming up to almost 40 right now so I guess I can go to the garage. Clear blue skys , no wind like yesterday so no excuse to not do something. Can't wash the truck as the hose is frozen, I think a clean up in the garage is in order.

Let`s see some pics. of that snow thrower (aka- Michigan porn)

Yesterday's weather in case you missed it.
According to the National Weather Service, on Christmas Day, 63.0% of the Continental U.S. was covered with snow, with a average depth of 5.0"

It's been cold here. 120 miles from Wendover. 9 below nite before last, wind chill about -30. Hard to believe the temp difference between august and now. SB

I don't care where you are.. If you can't step out and look at the Pacific Ocean.......Who Cares

Weather tonight on the salt will be 7 degrees, right now it's a warm 12 degrees.

Your just a Ol Beach Bum JD
I guess 2 months of real cold is worth the 2 hour drive to the salt.

Ah, finally -- photos of the new snow thrower. I used it for an hour or so today to clean around the mini storage (that we own) and do some other work at the property. Quite the device -- but not without a few hassles, like the chute plugs pretty easily. I'll be getting some snow thrower chute teflon (yes, California folks, there is such a thing) to spray on the inner surfaces, and one wire connector is farkled (from the manufacturer). But mostly - great!

Now -- don't you wish you had a toy like this?

Ultra-deluxe, Slim. Bobcats - they're not just for landscaping anymore.
Jimmy and Crow can hoot all they want, but there's nothing that gives a fellow a sense of accomplishment as great as the one you get when you've dug yourself out from under Mother Nature's icy grasp. AND, no better reward than to grab a hot Tom and Jerry when you're done.
Both Kate and I agree - It's nice living somewhere where the bugs die once a year. :-D
-
Unh, each has his own preferences. Me? I'd much rather grab a hot Nancy when I'm done working outside. But I guess I know what you mean. And as for the satisfaction -- yes, I think of that often. The weather here, like so many other bits of living way out, helps a man test his mettle. I wouldn't like living where it's so easy, so mellow, that there's nothing much to do that'll make me feel that I've accomplished something worthwhile. Rearranging the rocks in a desert garden doesn't make it happen for me.
-
Sub-freezing temps at Christmas? I'm hearing you......there is definitely something about it......I mean , I could have a whole bunch of ice cube trays just sitting on the the doorstep instead of crowding the freezer, making it hard to fit a second bottle in there, sheesh we've been running a chilly bin in the kitchen because the fridge is so full....and as for "sense of achievement" well, records have been tumbling, four drinks at once on Christmas day? hmmmmmm.................made some hollandaise this morning, had to, had poached eggs and leftover grilled salmon.......so much food my arm is getting tired stuffing it all in, and I've sprained my drinking elbow........got swimming weather coming up, dunno if I'll make it through

Nothing like riding you bicycle down the strand to the pier and have a tall cool one on the day after Christmas.....JD

Suum cuique.
-
:-o Slim, we don't re-arrange the rocks in the desert garden! We wait for them to move themselves! Talk about kicked back life! I spent most of my life manageing a vineyard in Talent Ore, also a stretch in Adak, Alaska. Don't care toooo much for cold weather any more! If ya can't ride your bike 364 days out of the year it's just no fun! Crow.
-
Here we just drive down the beach. Yes, you can still drive on the beach here. Of course you drive slow so you don't get sand on any of the bikini girls. Gotta love it. Beats the hell out of shoveling snow, or shoveling anything for that matter.
-
I'll say it again -- Suum Cuique. That's Latin for "To each his own".
-
California=traffic=crowds etc. Riding a bike to the beach use to be cool but now they get ripped off.
I miss the people & friends but not the other. We have two lakes near by, a bunch of state and national parks, miles of really neat and beautiful bike trails, both paved and dirt. Oh, did I mention no crowds.
-
the climate here sucks, but it's home and family.
have a safe and happy new year.
have fun, go fast, stop safe (courtesy d.m.) in '10.

Jon, last time I was headed to your neighborhood one of the guys called me and said "dress warm, we have 4 feet of fresh snow on the ground".... when I got there I found out how much you guys up north exaggerate about your snow... they only had 47 inches of fresh on the base. Another couple of feet arrived while I was working.... it was like driving in tunnels, show piled 8 feet high almost straight up from the curb.
