SFI v ISO Safety ratings
« on: February 23, 2014, 03:16:15 AM »
Hi all,
We have some I SO 6940 gloves, can anyone suggest what the equivalence to SFI is? They got knocked back last year,we just want to make sure they don't comply before we spend on a new pair.

Thanks in advance.

What you are asking is just what SCTA is trying to avoid.
By using SFI standards they are relying on the manufacturer to do all of the safety testing and that is the proof that allows the item to be used in SCTA competition.

Trying to relate an ISO standard 6940 to the FTM 191-1534 (Federal Test Method) for flame rating is not what the SCTA wants to do.

But it's more than that. The SFI standard also specifies construction methods for the gloves.

All you can do is provide the information that you have to the SCTA and pray for a a happy result.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

Goggles............. I SO 6940 gloves are approved at the local slaughter house

and even adequate in the sausage room.

That is an "on high" recommendation even if they aren't FTM rated.

Bring them with you when you come to Speed Week in case you have to get a

job to raise money for the ticket home.

Anyone can get a job in the sausage line at anytime.

Illegals included.

Gloves are an easy get - it's trousers that can become an issue . . .

I just love "Wallace and Gromett"  No offence intended, but I believe most (all?) Land Speed Racers have a touch of the mad inventor in their genes.
