A REALLY unusual dry sump tank!
« on: February 20, 2024, 07:46:23 PM »
Why is this an unusual dry sump tank? How about the fact that it was manufactured by North American Aircraft For the F-86 jet fighter? This was used as a sump tank for the hydraulic system that actuated its speed brakes. Capacity is 2.1 gallons and it has a built-in sight gauge. Aluminum construction. Quick-release cap with strainer and spill drain. An unusual feature is its swiveling pick-up, so under high G loads the pickup is always where the oil is. This is a cool piece! $200 plus shipping.

I was the tax payer that paid for it. As I remember it and a toilet seat cost me $10,660.00

That story has been around for a long time but in reality it is the paperwork and certifications that run prices up to an astronomical level when the government buys in quantities of one or two. Does the public know that vendors are required by law to certify than no slave labor was used to produce their wares? That is the level of stuff that is required by congress!

To clarify, I paid for three reams of paper created by 18 bureaucrats, to satisfy two congressmen's brother-in-law's  ironworks and welding companies.

The overall length is 15 1/2" and the diameter is 8 1/4", The storage plugs are still in the fittings but they look like #10AN.
