i kinda agree with john.... great accomplishment  but not outstanding achievement... Yet.... what are they done.?....... that thing went faster on every pass.... are they done.?.... people ask me "how fast will it go?".... as far as im concerned ya gotta beat the livin snot out of it till a rod is hanging out the back..... you rebuild and bring it back to the line and try again..... only then, you'll know how fast she will go!.... achievement!

The Bub bike and rig is parked right in front of the pickup here in the pits.  The bike is still in the trailer -- Chris and the crew are deciding if they'll make a run yet tonight.  They've got 'til 6.15 local time to initiate the effort per Mike Cook. The pit is in shadow about 7.15 so they'd have one hour to make both runs -- unless maybe they've got a headlight on the bike, which I haven't seen.

The wind feels like about 5 mph headwinid right now here -- but I haven't heard anything from down the course.

Chris just got back from a ride down the course (in Junior's pickup) and says the wind is 5-7 mph headwind with a little of an angle -- he'd rather have 3 or under (no kidding).  They've got 23 minutes left before they have to quit or make a run.

Here's Chris after taking another wind reading.

Okay -- the day is over -- The Bub crew has said there's more wind than they want to run against, so they'll pull the "today" plug and try again tomorrow.  The bike's all ready -- maybe they'll make an early morning run.  The crew will meet on the Salt at their pit at 7 in the morning.  Local sunshine is about 7.40, I think -- but I haven't checked recently.  I've just turned on the GPS -- let's see what it says is sunrise/sunset.  Remember, it doesn't know about the mountains.  GPS reports sunrise right here is 9.24AM.  Hunh?  Must still be thinking Eastern time.  Lemme check the weather report to see what they say.  Nothin'

This'll be my last post here today.  Thanks for sticking with us.  Lots of good runs by the Buckeye Bullet, the 757 Camaro, and the G-Force/Lamtrac snowmobile.  Lots of high speed action.

There'll be more in the morning.  Tomorrow is Thursday, the penultimate day of the Shootout 2009.

See you inj the morning.

PS  Thanks, Ray, for your photos.

Nope -- two more days -- Thursday and Friday.  I asked Mike Cook to get the answer, too -- since nobodfy else seemed positive.  I do remember hearing that the event was 20 through 26 September -- but he said Friday.  Q. E. D.

And yes, I did say penultimate.  It was me.  Nobody else but little ol' me.

Ron Main has decided to bring out the big guns.

Total displacement comes out to 1,556,002 cubic inches
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

And yes, I did say penultimate.  It was me.  Nobody else but little ol' me.

The conversation kinda went line this:

Me:  "Huh?  Penultimate?

Dictionary.com: "Next to last."

Me: "D'oh!!!"

I'm back in Taylorsville (SLC) now.  I seem to have used up a lotta printer paper and ink.  Needed a refill (and a shower.)  Jon will confirm this.  Ain't sayin which part.

I'll be leaving early in the morning and with luck, I'll meet Chris Carr and the BUB team around 6:30 at Land's End.

G'nite.
