It's not the same situation as last year.
-
Hell yes we are running. You should come too.
-
Last year the salt just needed to dry out for BMST to happen. That's not the current problem.
-
Makr lives there, I`ll drive the distance if he says its a go.
-
Delvene sent an e-mail I got at work this afternoon. She says the meet continues is not cancelled. She also says the weeks of summer weather between speedweek and the BMST can help things.
-
Wonder if they would ever do an abbreviated short course meet? There are lots of small bore or older bike folks that would do just fine on 3 or 4 miles.
Maybe not enough of us for it to pencil out...
-
KLR.............that's about the distance of the courses from last year
I hope we get one long course of 10-11 miles...........because I would like to see the fast stream-liners run :-) :-) :-)

Actually guys, I was wondering about the lack of salt and the presence of silt, not the water.

Yeah we were there, was just thinking if only a short course was available rather than cancel. Also would like to see the liners get to run again.

I know what you were asking, but no one knows. Last year was a close call. We got it in.
Every pass is precious
Every pass is great
If a pass is wasted...
lol
Thanks Jim. See you out there.:D
-
Do we have any updates on course or conditions?
-
According to the BMST website, they will be sending an advance team out next weekend to check to see if they can groom a course. I hope they can!
Don
-
Thanks Don, just trying to decide if I am going to make an 1800 mile drive to Maine or a 1630 mile drive to Utah.
-
if BMST does not happen there is a 1 mile event happening in CO this year on Labor Day weekend. same folks who run the TX mile:

This fellow does not need dry salt... www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-33767813 (http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-33767813)

Our team is in the same boat edinir - its only about 2oo mi shorter for us to hit LTA Harvest event. We are almost right in the middle between Bnvle & Maine
-
And Uncle Jimbo we have to remember temps in the low 70's in Maine and cheap lobster rolls, or 90 degrees and eating Mex food at the truck stop at Wendover. I much prefer the drive out west as other than a bit of traffic around Denver, I can keep the cruise control on 75 all the and make good time. Heading northeast I seem to slow down in Virginia and never speed up again. The big deal is to be able to race somewhere, anywhere.

Add these to your "Favorites", and check them often.

You guys from anywhere but the east coast, they pretty much have to use I 95, try to avoid I 95 until you get to Mass. I go I 81 to Sdranton, Pa, then I 84 to I 95 in Mass. I 95 through Pa., NJ, NY, really sucks. Oops this is going to Loring!
-
If Bonneville doesn't work out and you don't want to go all the way to Loring you could go to the Colorado Mile Sept 4-6 https://www.usmileracing.com/the-colorado-mile/
-
Elevation is a little over 5500 ft. Kind of tough on us NA guys. :-o

In the Bonneville General Chat there is an excellent assessment by Sid on page 45 -

When will the AMA & BMST have a decision on whether the salt conditions are safe or not, and if there is ample mileage for proper course length ?
Inquiring minds like to know.
-
Well, a lot can happen in 20 something days at Bonneville......All appendages crossed...... really looking forward to some "Boots on the ground Info" In 2005 we only had 5 miles to race on and we made it work.
-
:-D I have a very good feeling we're going to race. We will make this happen, like we have every year.
We have all worked too hard and too long to just throw in the towel right now.
You all have one or two bikes to get ready..... I have hundreds.
Keep the faith, See you on the Salt,
Linnea
-
I will say this. If there is any way for us to race at BMST, the organizers will make it happen. If folks do not know we literally raced on an island in the middle of a lake last year!!
-
Last year that area where Sid took the video a few days ago was flooded :-(....................SO THIS LOOKS VERY ENCOURAGING for the 2015 BMST crew :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

That's good because I'm livin' on a prayer right now.
What video?

picture taken yesterday at BMST international (long) course mile #1s normal location. Looking good so far!!
-
finally something positive, thank you!!
-
50-60% CHANCE of RAIN ..............RIGHT NOW :-(
But if its only a light shower all will be good tomorrow :-D :-D :-D
Thanks for the pic.............WISH I LIVED CLOSER
-
Well............that wish did not work :-( :-( :-(
But we still have 3-weeks to let the sun shine do its job :-)
-
It wasn't serious rain. It is beautiful right now, and looks to be forecast as staying that way.
-
Just took a look at that Colorado site. A 1.5 mile runway is not long enough for a mile venue. Maybe a kilo...
-
Just got the latest update email from BMST and it is still looking good to run the event.
-
AGREED :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
Some water on the salt.......... but they have located slightly thicker (elevated) salt to the west.
-
See you all soon!
-
See you all soon!
Those 4 little words just cut my stress level in half.
-
Calling the Pete Hill shop in the morning . Get the Knucklehead loaded up Pete !
-
Just read this in BMST facebook page:
The buckeye Bullet team are in Wendover and they use the international course for jogging in the morning. They report a dry track with no standing water on the course. Weather today is hot and sunny. We will be there Thursday to final prep the track and the Bullet is scheduled to roll Monday morning.

The triumph streamliner should be somewhere on the salt flats a week or so before the event.

Less Guy Martin the driver.
He had a massive get off racing in the NW200.
Multiple ribs broken, cracked vertabrae etc
-
And here's the reason why he's in hospital having a few bodywork modifications and an oil change. Checked the websites and nothing about bringing Jason back in to test. Mind you - knowing GM, he'll probably want to do it anyway :-D

My stupid Windows 10 does not play the video. It will be on Yahoo.comm soon anyway. This stuff always ends up on the front page.

W. Walrus is fit, tanned, ready, and trained on Triumphs. That liner will run at its full potential, no problem.
-
^^^^ :-D
-
How I'd love to see W. Walrus listed in the FIM records as fastest bike pilot on earth. 8-)

Looks like Triumph has put their attempt on hold till 2016 due to Guy's crash. http://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/2015/august/triumph-puts-brakes-on-speed-record-attempt/

There is a nice article on the BMST in this month's (September 2015) American Motorcyclist magazine. Scooter took the photos. I could not find an on-line copy of the article. AMA members get the magazine.
-
Yes nice article, can,t wait to get to the salt it just ramped up the excitement of it all.
My 72 350 Yamaha is running great here at sea level hope I do well at 5000ft

A short movie about Guy Martin was shown at our Triumph Club movie night a few years ago. He is a truck or bus mechanic when not racing and he seemed to be a pretty nice guy. I sure hope he gets better and takes up LSR. That street racing they do in GB is awfully dangerous. The salt flats are a lot safer.

Yeah, I saw that movie, too. Those guys have more guts & skills than brains. Probably the most dangerous sport of all. Over 200 riders have died at Isle of Mann alone.
I hope he heals quickly. While he's healing, maybe he can reflect on how lucky he was to get off where he did. (no stone wall to hit!)
I think I've seen all the TT movies on You Tube. It's crazy what they do. Valentino Rossi said NO WAY he'd ride IoM at speed. FIM stopped all their TT races many years ago.
