Take it to impound, Glen.

Just saw a post from Glen's son on FB. Looks like the Golden voice of Bonneville has gone silent. Sad day.

May he rest in peace.  There are damn few times that I don't think of him as I'm announcing at the salt.  Thanks, Glen.

I spoke with him almost every Tuesday on the chat line. Often times we were the only ones on. We missed last night but spent about twenty minutes a couple of weeks ago before the site went down. My Tuesday evenings are going to be more than a little more empty.

Rest in peace Glen. You've more than earned it.

Pete

What a sad news

he was so happy that he could announce his "to impound" for my first record in August 2012....his smile was so wide when I saw him later...

he was one of a kind and a giant

Glen, I will miss you...you will never forgotten...R.I.P.

It was always great to visit with him on our trips to the salt, and hear him on the radio.  He will be missed.  This is such sad news that it is hard for me to put my thoughts into words.

Sad to hear this, Glen was a good guy and a great friend. RIP Glen, glad to have heard you say "take it to impound" if only that once.

I'm giving the news an extra bit of time to rattle about in my head - what with me being the dude that does some announcing these days.  I reserve the right to say more, soon.

In the meantime, though, I will offer my personal bit of fun Glen Barrett memory:  Glen had such an innate ability to be a fun and caring guy while doing his job of communicating information.

Nancy was driving the pickup and trailer on the way from the line to the long end after I made a run, and Glen gently enforced the speed limit - with a personal touch:

"Nancy, Slim's okay and waiting for you.  Please slow down in front of the pits."

Rest in Peace, my friend.
