I have to question the wisdom of the lack of safety equipment too. The answer of "at that speed it won't make any difference" doesn't really make sense to me. Look how fast Speed Demon was going when it spilled and George walked away fine. I was at Dallas International when Art Arfons crashed and it was a mess, but I seem to remember he had safety gear. He also had a high speed spill on the flats that he survived. My question is why wasn't it built internally with at the very least a driver's cage built like Speed Demon? You might not be able to engineer enough safety for a 1000 mph crash, but existing technology seems to make 300 to 500 mph crash survivable. A 2" cage, an interior with a formula 1 type tub, minimal controls and hard surfaces, and an air bag system and this thing could have been a survivable system. This seems to me a tragic waste.
