Y'all are worrying too much... the strip miners will suck all the floating salt and the salt in solution over across the road... it will be on rail cars in a couple of months heading to who knows... the only thing saving the salt was the drought... they need water to strip mine the flats.

Neil, I think referring to her as a scientist is giving way too much credit... favored opinion for sale to the highest bidder is not science...

True, Bob- but I couldn't think of anything that went with "smirking". That one video she made years ago, she smirked all the way through it. I won't let anyone forget that. We're not a bunch of rubes out here.

New Lakester guy Bert Heath from Kansas City stopped in Wendover on his way back from Oregon and picked up his car.  He stored it after SpeedWeek just in case the salt dried so he could get a rookie run with his newly built and teched flathead lakester.
Took this picture....

No, BMST was scheduled for this week, but it's already been cancelled.  World of Speed was scheduled for September 9-12.  World Finals is still scheduled for September 26-30, but don't hold your breath.  It's my guess that the chances of it happening are slim to none - and Slim's probably staying in the UP!

Delvene Reber was telling me about the conditions she saw when she was down there. The camera is on slightly higher ground away from the courses and thus it is not giving an accurate indication of the course conditions. Along with the water there is a lot of muddy pothole action from the cars and trucks heading out to pick up their gear at SW. Interspersed with the holes are big chunks of the salt that was broken up by the vehicles. So even if it dried the surface would have been a lumpy mess in and on the way to the pits. It's going to take some time to heal.

In re:  The camera on the salt.

The surface salt looks okay at first blush, but I've been watching.  As the salt has been drying I've noticed the white isn't solid white but rather patches of white and not-so-white intermingled.  Those patches change as if they were wet spots, so I'm of the opinion the NSW is moist salt/mud, and from that visual I gauge the progress of the drying.

I wish I was a bureaucrat so I knew for sure.

He took the picture yesterday
The note with it was
"still lots of water at the end of the access road
I didn't venture off of the access road but it was water as far as I could see"
Unfortunately this checks with what Monty told us Saturday...
I guess we will see what and when the SCTA makes a decision... It's looking grim to me...
But that won't make me stop praying for a minor miracle
