After setting record in the morning, the ever enthused and dedicated Randy Speranza was in his pit making the necessary changes to run on yet another record. The was not to be. His aorta chose to begin to shred itself and it was only due to the quick, correct diagnosis that he is still with us as I write this note. Lifeflighted out to SLC, he was rushed into surgery where doctors went to work repairing Randy. After hours of delicate grafting and stitching, the land speed racing husband of DeEtte Speranza was wheeled into recovery heavily sedated around 10:30 mountain time. He's got many skilled eyes on him for the next 24 hours folks, so if you've got any kind of prayer in you, it would be a kindness indeed to offer up.
As I have seen over and over again, when one land speed racer goes down for whatever reason, so many others pitch right in without being asked. So it was done for Randy. . . His pit, his record-setting motorcycle, and every other vestige of his racing has been gathered up by friends. Still others are with DeEtte in SLC, so there is no lonely vigil for this loved one.
Some of you may also know him from his long years helping perfect the Brant,Wright, Speranza diminutive, yet mighty blue streamliner that earned the SCTA championship years ago.
C'mon Randy, we are pulling for you. . . you got more record runs to make.
