2021 event question
« on: August 17, 2021, 11:44:01 AM »
I haven?t seen any chatter about it here, but in the pits there was some conversation about the track closing at 5:30pm firm each day. At one stage even Ron announced if you were in line by a certain time they?d let you until 6 or so (as we have in previous years). But that didn?t happen this year.
I didn?t hear mention of this in the drivers meeting and it came as a surprise to us and other teams.
Can anyone shed any light on the decision?

The 5.30 pm closing time (6pm in previous years) was announced at the drivers meeting.  I remember hearing it and being surprised, just like I was for the 7.30 start time (vs. the 7 am we'd used previously).  The question about running out the vehicles in "pre-stage" at 5.30 vs. shutting down racing at 5.30 was not addressed at the meeting.  On at least one day the officials did run out the vehicles that were in line at 5.30.

Old people need their rest.... OK it is a volunteer organization...
I heard it and saw a couple of days they stopped at 530...
I like the 730 leave impound not because I like to sleep in but because the sun is less in the drivers eyes because it is higher above the horizon.

I must have missed that. Apologies.

I get closing the track at 5:30 after Monday, but the first weekend there are a lot of racers and a lot of spectators that paid good money to be there. For the spectators alone we should be putting on a good show. I can see a publicity benefit in running to 6-6:30 the first 3 days, then backing off to 5:30 the rest of the event.

7 or 8 hours is a pretty long show.  And, most of the "big guns" (including the smaller and much-experienced littler ones) are in line, ready to go, after the Drivers Meeting.  A high majority of them won't run later that same day as they've already qualified, broke or are making changes.

That's exactly how I feel about the putting on a show. Were in line early to run when the air is the best and hopefully accomplish some of our goals. No place reading the fine print is there anything about putting on a show.  That's what the car show at the Nugget is for.

Yes, but....

Rhetorical, devil's advocate question : how much income do they get from spectator admissions?

So this event went on from what? late on the 7th. till early on the 13th.?
that's 6 days.

If you start racing a half hour later than normal and end a half hour earlier...
that's 1 hour a day less racing.
multiply that by 6 days, and that's 6 hours less opportunity to race thru the whole event.

never mind the spectators,
The racers are the ones who paid the money to run a full event,
If anyone, they are the ones who got short changed.

Just my opinion, and your math may vary.

From what I heard on Jon & Ron's live stream, the later days had brief wait times, or even none at all on the short course.

Rent the salt and run 24 hours a day.

Isn't that what Ab Jenkins did in the 1930's?

Would the BLM allow running overnight these days?

Well we should actually let Slim determine who used the correct grammar... and sentence structure...

But as usual the lines were long the first couple of days, the wrecks caused delays, but I didn't hear anyone complain about being short changed.
If you were not there racing you should have been.  :dhorse:  cromag
