From Inflamed,

Drill or stay home. You can buy or make a small jig to drill the nuts, it is easy

I Googled "bolts predrilled for safety wire"

There are 'washers' w/ tabs to wire and lock nut or bolt.

If the bolts go all the way thru and come out the other side.
Use 15mm longer bolts, and drill them where they come out
They all have to be wired as well as the axle and axle nut if it has one
It's much easier to do at home than on the lake.
Everyone with a bike has to do it and they all find a way

A hint to save a lot of heartache.  Spend a couple of extra buck and get solid carbide drill bits.  Don't fool yourself into thinking a pack od $2 bit from Harbor Freight will do the trick.  My sidecar mounts and suspension has a total of 25 bolts.  All drilled and wired.  We all do it.  Just takes a bit of thinking and then doing.

Solid carbide drills are great buy they can be broken easily. I'd buy cobalt drills.

Neil, You are always on top of things. I would only use a carbide bit in a mill when needed. Something like this makes it easy.

Thanks for the info guys,I have a spare set of fork tubes I got to looking at them they are just studs screwed in ,I  took some of the studs out and metric fine thread bolts will work, those I can drill on the press ok.lucky I bought a 2lb roll of wire for the bike! Besides the axles is there any places  I have to worry about, I printed off the tech inspection sheet it just talks about axles etc for bikes?

remember you must wire the pinch bolts AND the axles.

if you are going to replace those studs with bolts be sure to use plenty of anti-seize compound on the threads.

Make sure the bolts are a good grade. Nuts are easy to drill the corners and wire in pairs. Google and it will show you how.

Be safe

I made my own nut drilling jig from a piece of 1" x 3/8" flat stock.   Just mark the angles and where you want to drill and drill a hole.  The take a hacksaw and cut the angles.  Bingo you have a jig.  I clamp the nut in the jig with a small vice I have in the drill press and drill.

It is best to leave the bolts unwired during the trip to the salt and to retorque them, including the triple tree pinch bolts, and wire them, before going through tech.  Sometimes they need to be retightened after a long trip.
