My wife makes a neck wrap / cooler with white tube socks, plastic sandwich bags, and velcro. (cheap stuff)
Keep the bags full of ice cubes and open just the end so they leak out as they melt.
Keep spares in a cooler that is pre-loaded and you can trade them for a lot of stuff on a lot of days.
Nothing cools the body better than cool blood and a lot is available around the neck.
It keeps the shirt wet also to cool your heart.

I have a problem with all of this advice to him

For the past 20 years all I have worn is a pair of shorts.
I never take any sweaty laundry home that way.
My last exam by the dermatologist showed no skin cancer so forget the clothes and bring
some SPF 16.
Bud lite has water in it. Just drink enough to remain vertical.
Rules are simple.
If you can find someone elses credit card, you are in GREAT SHAPE.

It appears you might consider picking and choosing among all of the above recommendations.  My choices:  a large VENTILATED wide brimmed hat (good for top of ears, nose, back of neck and particularly good for those of us challenged with a lack of natural scalp protection); I vote for short shirts and pants, light in color because they tend to be cooler; SPF 30 applied thoroughly and several times a day to all uncovered areas, and don't forget Jack's input that it goes on lower areas to protect against sun bounce off the salt. Today?s sun screens allow us more latitude in apparel than in the past, IF WE FOLLOW THEIR RECOMENDATIONS.

Dang laptop pressure pad mouse
Yes pick and choose from the recommendations and don't scare the women and small children like Freud does.

Well because you opened the door, Freud's shorts scare a lot of the guys also.

More than just his shorts...
We found a really good picture going thru some old Bonneville files,
Jon Amo, did you ever post that one?

My dress code allows me to park wherever there are women and children. As soon as I step out of the car, they get back in and relocate, leaving me with their parking spot and sometimes even their cooler.

It ain't all bad being old, wrinkled and no morals.

That's what attracted Stainless to me.

Just read this post and am a little late in the reply, but to expand on one of Jack D's posts,  you don't EVEN want to wear SHORT, baggy- legged shorts on the salt (unless you have "Speedos" under!)
5 mph in pit area (clothed)

Last year my Brother-in-law learned the lesson. He used sun screen on all the normal places except the underside of his nose. Guess what......

Nothing like sun and salt for a nice even tan (burn).
