The June meet of the 2017 El Mirage season was greeted with dust raising winds for the Saturday inspections. The wind continued to Sunday morning but, the racing carried on.

Craig Black became the only new member of the El Mirage 200 MPH Club. Craig drove the Black Racing family '93 Mustang in the B/GAlt class to a new record of 205.539.

Before the wind returned on Sunday to shut the meet down there were three other car records set The first was the Aardema Braun Lattin D/FRMR driven by Scott Goetz to a record speed of 225+ MPH. Valerie Fenn was the driver of the EdnVal Fenn Honda coupe in the J/GC class, setting a record speed of 115 MPH. Lastly, Jeremy Teepen was in the H&H Motorsports Dodge Charger running in the G/BGC class. Jeremey set the record at 190.5 MPH but, promised faster speeds next month.

The motorcycle impound team once again out did the car impound, certifying five records. First up is Michael Triberio on the Tiber River Moto Guzzi in the 1000-M-PG class with a 136 record. Cathy Butler set her second record of the year on the Van Butler Racing Honda. This month Cathy ran the 650-MPS-G class and set the record to 185 MPH for the class. The Lost Boys Racing entry had Billy Jahn in the saddle and set the 1000-MPS-F record with their Yamaha scooter. Leslie Hoogerhyde racing under the Hoogerhyde Honey banner rode her 750-A-G Suzuki to a new class record of 167+ MPH. The Mackie Welding Spl., a 250cc Harley Davidson Sprint was ridden by Mark Summitt to a 250-APS-PF class record of 121 MPH.

I mentioned that the wind returned on Sunday and curtailed the racing due to dust visibility issues. The first round did not complete, this triggered a seldom used rule from the El Mirage Procedure manual. This rule states briefly, that in the case of round one not running to completion there will be no points awarded for the meet, but the certified records will stand. The entrant has the option to accept his/her record or decline the record within 24 hours. This is a strategy that some will employ in the quest of the season championship. This month there were two car and five motorcycle records declined. I, for one, hope this works out for the racers.

We are looking forward to a great pre-Bonneville meet on July 16th. A good meet to put that final tune on the machine. Have a safe and fast event,
